“Freedom to rock, freedom to talk. Freedom, raise your fist and yell.” - Alice Cooper
Hobie Brown, the Spider-Punk of Marvel's Earth-138
Prince Sonic, lead guitarist of Sonic Underground
The path to Freedom is a long and arduous road; especially when you're going up against corrupt governments, evil scientists, giant robots, and general dystopia of all kinds. But, with just a little high voltage, a sweet Guitar, and a band to back you up, those who just wanna rock will always come out on top. Now, these two punk powerhouses are coming face to face in a battle of the bands, where only ONE. CAN. WIN!!!
Round 1: FIGHT!!!
Before We Start…
This will of course be using the primary canon for both Hobie and Sonic. This means the comics for Spider-Punk, and Sonic gets his show, obviously, as well as the LCD game (yes, there's a Sonic Underground Video Game). Also, a few specific examples of things aren't linked because it's mostly using my recovered notes from a year ago, and they aren't wholly perfect.
Also, credit to the following sources.
Great work on all of the above for the respective owners, and I'm not at all trying to pass this Spider-Verse related blog off as my own research given I didn't do it all myself. That would make me a jerk.
Enough of that though, let's get into it!
Background
Spider-Punk
In the dark future of Earth-138, the music-obssessed world and populace was diseased; rotten to the core. Everything in sight was blighted by big business, fascist governments, rampant consumerism, and President Norman Osborn above it all. He ruled America with an iron fist and an even stronger regime; backed by the might of his Thunderbolt Department and the ferocity of V.E.N.O.M (Variable Engagement Neutro-Sensitive Organic Mesh) Nanotechnology. However, all of this would change when teenage squatter Hobart Brown was bitten by a spider turned radioactive from exposure to illegal waste dumping. This power turned Hobie into a Spider-Totem, a sort of multiversal constant of the Web Of Life, an eternal and infinite web to every dimension in existence. Every section of the web needs a Spider-Man, like Peter Parker from Earth-616 and nearly all have one in some form. So, after this call from destiny, Hobie picked up the phone, and himself up off the ground, to become the Anarchic Spider-Man…but you can just call him Spider-Punk
Hobie was always unhappy with his life before, and he expressed this through constant profanity, language, anger through music; his one way of letting out the beast and keeping himself sane (for the most part). After being homeless and for all intents worthless with nobody to help him, he refused to accept anyone trying to claim superiority over others, and upon the Spider Bite, he finally found a way to fight back. Working with his new friends Captain Anarchy and the Punk Hulk, Spider-Man took down the HYDRA Organization, trashed the U-Foes at the Hellfire Club, and drove the evil Universal Church out of Brooklyn with M.C Strange. Using his prowess as a fighter and leader, he formed the Spider-Army as a "Radioactive Suicide Machine" and made a last stand against Osborns tyranny. With 15,000 volts and amps cranked to the max, Spider-Man played his guitar like he never had before, creating Sonic frequencies to disrupt the V.E.N.O.M, and stop Osborn in his tracks, beheading him, saving the world, and unmasking himself, his work complete… but that isn't the end.
Hobie's spirit and strength led to him becoming a perfect candidate for the growing army Across The Spider-Verse for Otto Octavius, the self-said Superior Spider-Man. Taking to this like a fish to water, Hobie quickly began fighting against all manor of evil whenever he could, be it the hounds of the immortal Inheritors, the Inheritors themselves, or over 10,000 Electro’s and saving the multiverse by playing Rock And Roll with his idol, Gwen Stacy. Now, as Spider-Punk, he fights until he can no longer stand, because like his rock idols taught him, it's better to die on your feet and stick it to the man than to live on your knees.
Sonic the Hedgehog
There was a time when the world of Mobius was beautiful, thanks in no small part to the wise and caring Queen Aleena. She ruled with a kindness and passion for making the life of all Mobians better, especially in the city of Mobotropolis. However, this peace would not come to pass, as shortly after the birth of Aleena’s triplets, the evil Dr. Robotnik used his technology to turn the planet into a place of terror and fear. By siphoning the funds of the wealthy aristocrats to power his schemes, like the horrifying Roboticizer, Robotnik quickly took control of the entire planet.
The Royal Family was outlawed and a price was placed on their heads, but when all hope seemed lost, the sagely Oracle Of Delphius sought out the overthrown Queen, revealing the future to her. She would separate with her children and, one day in the future, reunite with them to form the Council Of Four, overthrowing Robotnik, and saving all that was and is. Sadly, in order to reach that future, Aleena had to give up her precious sons and daughter, so that Robotnik would never find them. Her daughter Sonia was placed with wealthy nobles, her son Manic was intended for another, but was stolen by a kindly thief, and her eldest son was sent to live in the outer woods. This infant Hedgehog would one day grow up to overthrow Robotnik, and become the fastest thing alive. This…was Sonic the Hedgehog.
Growing up, Sonic was a spirited child, to say the least. His super-speed and aptitude for Chili Dogs above all else made him quite the hassle, but his new parents and Uncle Chuck loved him all the same, until Robotnik found them. Sonic and Chuck escaped, but his foster parents were captured and roboticized, and this early exposure to Robotnik's tyranny molded Sonic into a selfless and slightly arrogant leader of the Freedom Fight on Mobius, battling its corrupt leader up until his teenage years as its deadliest threat. One day, the Oracle re-appeared to inform Sonic of his destiny, and his hidden family. A bit shocked at this, Sonic did what came best to him, and played a song. His treasured Medallion glowed and turned into a Guitar for him to strum his troubles away with, and it not only did that, but it led Sonia and Manic to him. The Triplets reunited, learnt of their future and the responsibility they held, and thus they formed the Sonic Underground band, swearing to find their mother and overthrow Robotnik.
Across their many adventures after, Sonic and his family saved countless lives, destroyed thousands of Swatbots and machines, and saved the entire planet from a Chaos Emerald...but unfortunately, cancellation is a female dog. Courtesy of that, they'll probably never get a full continuation...but that is only half the story. They've also crossed over to the Archie Sonic Canon, and apparently gone on tour across the multiverse to spread their music and joy to any world battling Robotnik. What's more, in the LCD game, they actually did save their mother, and in Archie Sonic, it was planned for them to receive a true ending (until Sega axed it. Don't worry though, Archie Sonic Online finished things). Despite all the trouble they faced, one thing remains the same: They made a vow, their mother will be found...because they are SONIC UNDERGROUND!!!
Experience & Skill
Spider-Punk
Hobie is no stranger to active combat. He has, after all, fought Osborns regime for years. In terms of battle, he's mostly a scrapper first, and takes some very…creative choices in combat. He's frequently used his guitar as an impromptu club, headbutted foes with his spikes, and has used some skillful kicks elsewhere. He is ranked a 4/7 in Skill in the Spider-Geddon Handbook, which is the same as government agents and expert assassins like Kaine and Teresa Parker. Even Karn, an immortal demigod Inheritor who has slain hundreds of Spider-Totems over several decades, shares this ranking. Of course, this could be just a general aptitude for combat, as Takuya Yamishiro, who is a master of Ninjutsu and FAR less experienced than Karn, is ranked higher at a 5. One other thing to note is, unlike most Spiders, Hobie isn't one to hold back and let his opponents live for "morality", so if he sees a kill shot, he's taking it.
Sonic
Sonic is a natural in all things combat, and has showcased it in fighting Robotnik's tyranny for years, presumably from when he was a young child all the way until his teenage self. This includes taking out several factories in rapid succession without being seen for over a year, and having memorized knowledge on pretty much everybody in Mobotropolis because of the Resistance, like how he knew from the start Manic was a thief. He's also rapidly reprogrammed several robots and technology with little issue, and has shown knowledge on other sorts of stealth and hacking before, despite his siblings faring better in that regard.
Speaking of them, Sonic is generally comparable to them, and the smartest overall in a combat sense. Sonia and Manic are both incredible warriors and thinkers; capable of hacking complex tech in moments, with Sonia being a skilled martial artist who also has a photographic memory. In terms of combat, Sonic has proven to be a crack shot with his guitar, enough to accurately nail a fly, and he's even outsmarted and outplayed A.R.T, an evolving and adapting supercomputer built to learn from mistakes and counter any strategy. Despite that, Sonic has escaped him and beaten him in battle twice; only losing later due to being caught off-guard in his base with the others. He has also received training from the warrior Gandar, courtesy of the Oracle, on how to improve his speed and reactionary time, including a few speed techniques he would use throughout the show.
Arsenal
Spider-Punk
Web-Shooters
Just like most other web-slingers, Spider-Punk has himself a pair of web shooters to help in all spider-related needs. He can swing across cities, shoot strands out of both to catch people, yank himself towards objects, shoot a web line to grab someone, restrain Kraven in a bunch of webbing, etc. It's also said he can produce webbing to entangle opponents or swing between buildings, though to be fair it is unclear if he’s producing it or not.
Guitar
When Hobie wants a more up-close option, he’s had no issue with using his guitar to bash peoples skulls in. Plugged up to 15,000 watts and an army of amps, it even created an electrical discharge of sound waves to shut off V.E.N.O.M for the small army wearing it. While he doesn't always have the sound materials or resources, he's more than willing to use it as is to slash off Osborn's head in the same issue, with the Guitar not being damaged at all from it, meaning it's likely made of a super-durable material. Although, it has broken against stronger foes like the Inheritors before, so it's not invincible
Bat
For his neutral special, Spider-Punk wields a bat. Magic or technology? …No, it's just a bat.
Vibranium Heel Boots
Due to working with Shuri of Wakanda in rebuilding his damaged world, Hobie recently acquired boot heels made out of the famous metal Vibranium. These enhance Hobie's kicking power, but won't protect him from a strong enough impact in the long run.
Spider-Van
Most bands have a good van to travel the country with, in movies anyway. Hobie is no different, in that… OK yeah I'm not gonna lie. He's a lot different because his van turns into a $#%&ING GURREN LAGANN KAIJU ROBOT!!!
Basically, the Ironheart of Earth-138 took notes from Hobies Spider-Verse adventures; particularly, the emissary of hell, SUPAIDAMAN! She thus rebuilt the currently battle-damaged van into a giant mech that Spider-Punk piloted with his crew to dispatch a similar robot of Otto Oktavius. Its many features are listed below.
Web-Shooter - Just like it's pilot, the Spider-Van can launch web volleys out of its hands.
Rocket Fist - Like a certain other Marvel red robot, this mech can launch its fist like a rocket to punch enemies from afar, while giving them the finger no less. It can also pour energy into its blows for enhanced strikes.
Great Battle-Ax Vigor - As the final memoir to Leopardon, this robot can unveil a massive guitar for a final swing at the enemy. While extraordinarily powerful, this won't immediately one-shot the enemy if they are powerful enough.
Sonic
Medallion/Guitar
Each member of Sonic Underground bears a Medallion given to them by their mother, from which they can bring forth their instrument of choice as a weapon. Even on the Medallion’s own, it can glow in regards to what he should do and presumably guide his intentions/desires, like how it helped him sing the song in his heart he had no idea how to do in Episode 1. As for using it against Robotnik, when Sonic achieves harmony within himself, like the power of his love for music, his Medallion transforms into a guitar he summons out of thin air in place of his treasured family heirloom. He can do this through simply touching the Medallion, like tapping, gripping, or rubbing on it like a genie's lamp, or even through pure thought. As for the instrument itself, it is an electric multi-neck guitar (resembling his own head) that can shoot energy blasts to blow up robots among many other uses as long as he is in harmony with himself. Although, after some training in that regard, the Oracle has stated that he can use his powers whenever he wants. Of note, Sonic also has the most control and skill with his weapon compared to Sonia and Manic. It's effects and powers are as follows:
Electricity/Energy Manipulation - This would be the Guitars main method of attack, and something Sonic seems to be able to use on his own, like when he had an electric triple high five in a song with his siblings, or how all their medallions have emitted electricity when using their powers. The guitar can shoot energy bolts, beams, or multiple blasts of electricity with each riff. In terms of more esoteric usage, Sonic has used rapid fire like a machine gun, and on occasion blasted concussive hits to smash robots to pieces. One of its best electric powers however is its inherent control over technology. Sonic has used this to short-circuit multiple computers via a traveling electric blast, and Sonia's keyboard could blast and short-circuit robots: immediately shutting them off. Even greater, when their instruments played together in conjunction with a Power Gem that boosted their power (while non-standard, it does further prove this point) they created a blast akin to a E.M.P that directly shut off dozens of robots in the area in seconds.
Enhanced Hearing/Extrasensory Location - With Manic and Sonia's medallions, both of them could hear Sonic’s music despite being far away from it, with both having others beside them that couldn’t hear it, and Sonia even saw the exact location of the club where this was. This could technically just be for his siblings' music specifically, but it is noteworthy nonetheless.
Genetic Manipulation/Nullification - All 3 Medallions playing could remove the effects of Sonic Tonic in seconds. What is Sonic Tonic? Well, it was a serum absorbed through one’s skin made to boost their speed to Sonic’s level… and give them bigger feet for some reason. The simple sound of Sonic playing not only reduced their speed, but also the size of their feet back to normal, which all of them playing completed.
Plant Growth and Manipulation - Sonic has grown multiple plants in a song alongside his siblings just by playing his Guitar, like making flowers bloom and trees dance.
Hovering and Gravity Manipulation - While using his Medallion/Guitar, Sonic began to float in the air, because why not? While playing on other occasions, he flew up on a rock, with the others doing the same.
Lightning Summoning - Sonic appeared to summon a few lightning bolts while playing, which would honestly make a great stage effect for his concerts.
Regeneration (Amulet) - Despite the difference in Instruments, each Medallion, as well as their functions and capabilities, should be roughly the same. This is important because Manic had his drums turned to ash by the Chaos Emerald, and reformed them mere minutes later as good as new. Remember, the Guitar IS the medallion, so any damage done to it can be reversed in mere minutes with no issue, and possibly even earlier as he didn't try until they needed a song.
Freedom Fighter Weapons/Tools
On the rare occasion that Sonic can’t blast his way out of trouble with his Guitar, he and his siblings have used plenty of different weapons and tools to battle Robotnik.
Anti-Gravity Sneakers - A new and state-of-the-art pair of sneakers Sonic got that let him walk up walls and onto the ceiling, staying there for as long as he likes.
Bombs - He and his siblings have used these on multiple occasions to destroy Robotnik's bases, like the 2 he used to destroy Robotnik's weapons factory at the beginning of the show, the ones Sonia and Manic used to destroy a Polar base, or when Manic had some that vaporized a base the place.
Communicator - Sonic has used this to talk on the phone with Sonia.
Hoverboard - Similar to the one Manic rides to fly alongside Sonic himself (still not as fast), the blue blur has used it in a fashion skilled enough to dodge energy blasts from multiple ships, and in the LCD Game, this will turn him Invincible for a short time; the cover and manual outright stating nothing can harm him while he is on it.
Parachute Pack - Each member of Sonic Underground had one of these to quickly escape from an area.
Swatbot - These are sort of a Glamrock Freddy situation, courtesy of his tech-based ally Cyrus. Made of a super strong but super light material, these robots are impressive pieces of machinery that can scan the area for hidden objects, and other Swatbots can morph either hand into a Mega Man style blaster. It did get destroyed though, sadly.
Telescope - Sonic has this in a song. It see good.
Abilities
Spider-Punk
Spider-Totem Physiology
Due to the Spider Bite and his role as a Spider-Totem, Hobie has an enhanced all around physique, with super-strength able to lift over a ton, enhanced reflexes, incredible endurance, and nigh-perfect equilibrium. He should also be comparable to any other average Spider-Totem, given the similarities behind their Origins. This grants him an impressive healing factor; enough to recover from blindness or broken bones, and stamina 40 times stronger than the average person which enables a Spider to fight for hours or even days on end.
Spider-Sense
As a Spider-Totem, Hobie wields the best Deus Ex Machine of all time; the Spider-Sense. While he hasn't shown this much, the signs (figuratively and literally) are there, and it is presumed his is similar to the other Totems, with recent issues having him use the spider-sense like normal. To elaborate, the Spider-Sense is an alarm of sorts, allowing a Spider to sense incoming danger even if they can’t see it. It can predict several future outcomes, seeing which ones are safe and which ones are dangerous, and slows down the user’s perspective to a crawl to let them always be a few steps ahead of their opponent. Even after being blinded, the spider sense will ensure its wielder aims exactly where they need to. Essentially, “it buzzes on the bad ideas and goes silent on the good ones”. Not only does it detect danger, but virtually anything ”unsafe,” and works on a 360 degree radius to detect things like teleportation or someone’s speed, etc. Even if a Totem can not fully evade the attack, the spider sense will make sure they sustains as little damage as possible from it.
Wall-Crawling
The other half of Spider-Man's staple; and what everybody thinks of in regards to “does whatever a Spider can.” Spider-Punk can alter his body's attraction to other objects, letting him crawl or walk on any surface regardless of gravity, which he can use on every other part of his body. The strength tied to this so strong that Peter Parker has stated he’s never encountered anything that severed this bond, only in cases where the surface itself is completely broken. It might be unorthodox, but with this, random objects can be used as impromptu weapons in a pinch, which certainly fits Hobie's fighting style. Moving at high-speed, like on jets or space shuttles can't shake a Spider off, and it can be used to overcome the momentum of speeding objects to stop them in their tracks. Inexplicably, it can also be used to turn the tide on stronger opponents, like when Peter Parker was able to flip the Hulk around, or when Spider-Gwen was able to tear off the Super Adaptoid's armor.
Resistances
(NOTE: Due to sharing the same powers as most Spider-Totems, the following resistances should apply to Hobie)
Acid - Spider-Man was fully submerged in Acid for a period of time and survived.
Antimatter - Spider-Man interacted with Antimatter spheres and was fine.
Electricity - Spider-Gwen has shrugged off electricity from Electro, and most other Spider's have fought them anyway.
Extreme Temperature/Vacuum of Space - Spider-Man can survive in the vacuum of space for a time.
Life Absorption Resistance - Not exactly a resistance per se, but Hobie and multiple other Spider-Men can have portions of their life essence absorbed by the Inheritors and still fight, provided it is a quick escape. He and some others even helped Karn via giving him some of their life energy, and were mostly fine after to keep on fighting.
Radiation - Spider-Man has shrugged off attacks from Radiation Man.
Sound Attacks - Spider-Man was relatively fine in close proximity to Black Bolt's shouts.
Toxin/Poison - Spider-Man could survive being pumped full of toxin; enough to kill an entire city, and endure it for multiple minutes.
Sonic
Super-Speed
As the fastest thing alive, Sonic obviously possesses mind and reality bending speed, but his is a bit beyond a typical speedster in that he has no protection from it, like how the Speed Force dampens the impact for a Flash. Therefore, he tanks the energy from running as fast as he does each and every time he uses his speed. He's also nearly never been shown to tire out, and has crafted several speed techniques across his adventures, like…
Super-Spin - Through his speed, Sonic can spin fast enough to make mini tornados, which he can use for a variety of reasons. When comparing him to Sonia and taking his own examples, this includes picking up objects and throwing them with, sucking in enemies to dump them elsewhere, knocking down multiple robots, and cutting through rope binding the others.
Super Sonic Triple-Spin - The classic Sonic spindash reinvented in a new way. It is referred to as the Super Sonic Triple Spin, Super Spin, Super Sonic Spin, and Sonic Spin Dash, but whatever name you want, the result is still the same. With it, Sonic revs up into a deadly buzzsaw to both move faster and cut through several materials or enemies like Swatbots, rope, boulders, ice, etc. Sonic has also used this to burrow around underground, enhance his agility or speed, and aim while in mid-air.
Homing Attack - If you’d rather see a more classic Sonic move, here's a clear homage to the homing attack. He's used it just like the games; hovering in midair before striking the opponent with precision.
Semi-Flight - By running fast enough, Sonic has, on several occasions, been able to hover or straight up fly. He's referred to high-speed running as flying before, and actually done it multiple times as a blue streak as a blue streak. This ranges from him spinning his legs to fly like a %$#@ing Yoshi, to hovering in mid-air while completing tasks or Super Spinning.
Tornado - By spinning rapidly, Sonic can make large tornadoes to suck in his friends and draw them out of a room, or, scaling from Sonia, seemingly erase people from existence? Seriously. No idea how this happened.
Drill - Spinning fast enough while standing in one place allows Sonic to drill through the ground, like into a Robotnik base.
Material Burn - By vibrating his body fast enough, Sonic has burned away and broken through a liquid turned hardened trap in a short time, or similarly gotten out of A.R.T's binding restraints by rotating super fast, likely by this, which A.R.T later said was in fact spinning.
Resistances
Fire - Tanked a flame pillar attack without much trouble beyond some scorch marks.
Lightning - Shrugged off several consecutive lightning bolt strikes.
Mind Control/Soul Manipulation/Technology Manipulation - With the 3 amulets combined, Sonic Underground could free Captain Argus from Robotnik's Roboticization Mind Control, which rendered him a Robotic slave, albeit only temporary. They did this again to another characters father with Sonia saying it lasts a few minutes, and the wiki describes this as overcoming the mind control and freeing the caged consciousness, if only for a time.

Fought Knuckles, who dug through "a mile" of Mobibendum; a super metal that apparently weighs a ton and is heavy enough to warrant serious doubt about it being used for a ship
While spinning, he resisted an energy field that completely annihilated a Swatbot
It was later revealed this was powered by a Chaos Emerald
Fodderized Sleet and Dingo multiple times over the series (seriously just look at any time they fight)
While using his powers in a Song, Sonia appeared to turn into a comet that blasted into space and created a constellation (HUH???)
With his Guitar…

While tired out, he called himself hypersonic (Mach 5-10)
Moved so fast everybody else (villagers and Manic) were like statues in comparison (Mach 31.4285)
Got to a castle he said was "a jillion miles from here" in a short timeframe (Mach 36.32 - 363.236)

Ran fast enough to break through Robotnik's shield, which Uncle Chuck said would take all his speed, and made Robotnik exclaim that "nothing" could be that fast
Multiple people have also affirmed that Sonic is the fastest thing on Mobius
Jokingly said "How do you like that? I am faster than Light!" In response to his shutting off the lights of a city (See Before the Verdict)
Searched a ship so fast Sonia and Manic didn't even see his move, with Sonia sarcastically joking he moved faster than the Speed of Light, only to gasp in response (See Before the Verdict)
Durability
Tanked getting smacked by a robot that busted down a metal door.
Spun around fast enough to cause afterimages by a bot and was just annoyed.
Tanked ramming into a tree from his own running speed
Got struck by lightning multiple times and was pretty much fine, albeit annoyed
Tanked a point blank flame pillar and was fine, with only burns/scratches
The van tanked some energy from an omni Chaos Emerald blast
Via having no real protection, he is tanking the forces of moving at his top speeds
Survived his show getting canceled (debatable)
Scaling
Spider-Punk
Spider-Man
As a Spider-Totem with the same powers, Hobie should realistically be comparable to the main Earth-616 Peter Parker. He also has scaling to several other Totems with more direct comparison to Peter, like Miles Morales, so all of our favorite web-slingers feats would be something he could achieve.
Survived being hit with enough electromagnetic energy to destroy a city (10 Megatons of TNT)
Survive an explosion caused by Colossus and Magik wielding the Phoenix Force, which destroyed a mountain top (15.11 Megatons of TNT)
Tanked a blast from the Scepter of the Manticore, whose energy could power a device needing over 1 Exajoule (239 Megatons of TNT, see Before the Verdict)
Possibly survived an explosion comparable to the one that sunk Atlantis (See Before the Verdict)
Debatably scales to Iron Man's lower suits of armor, which have done the following (See Before the Verdict)
The Silver Centurion destroyed a mountain the size of Manhattan (179.8 Megatons - 1 Gigaton of TNT)
War Machine (in an old armor no less) survived being flung into a mountain with enough force to cause tremors felt from Asia to California (2 - 250 Gigatons of TNT)
Iron Man Model IV withstood an attack from the Mandarin that created an earthquake felt 7,000 miles away (1.4 teratons of TNT)
Dodged Lightmaster's light beams
Outpace microwave beams (FTL)
Dazzler stated that she has never seen anybody move as fast as Spider-Man.
Dazzler moves at lightspeed
While holding back, was physically superior to an amped Daredevil. Daredevil at that point could perceive other street tiers like US. Agent as “slow moving sculptures.”
Spider-Totems/Spider-Man Related Characters
Due to comparing to most other Spider-Totems, like Miles Morales for one, Hobie should reasonably scale to the majority of Spider-Man's allies across the multiverse. He's also fought versions of their enemies just fine, like the Inheritors Hounds, so it's fairly solid.
Earth-626/Mainline Marvel Universe
Go Go Gadget: Gene Bomb Carnage (3.7 megatons - 1.8 gigatons of TNT)
Pardon this crude explanation, but, seriously
Earth-1610/Ultimate Universe
Peter Parker survived a massive explosion (502 Kilotons of TNT)
Miles punched Ultimate Green Goblin through multiple buildings
Miles tanked an electric blast from ZZZax that took out Ms. Marvel
Earth-929/2099 Universe
Miguel O’Hara can fight Chernobyl, who caused an explosion visible against the curvature of the Earth (51.18 teratons of TNT, see Before the Verdict)
This was also stated by Chernobyl to be capable of decimating a zone of “one-thousand kilometer radius” (22.726 Teratons)
Insomniac Spider-Man Universe
Peter moved in tandem with particles moving within a particle accelerator
Miles turned chunks of Sandman into glass (749.71 Tons of TNT)
Miles absorbed the energy of an unstable Nuform Reactor and survived its explosion, which would have vaporized Harlem entirely (55.5 megatons of TNT)
Insomniac Peter Parker has fought and is treated as comparable to Miles, and Insomniac Peter has fought Superior Spider-Man
NOTE: Multiple Spider-Man and Spider-Totem feats could be listed here, but I will speak on those Before the Verdict, and they won't really be included here.
Marvel Street-Tiers
Naturally, as a webhead comparable to 616 Peter, Hobie should thus upscale others that Spider-Man has rather easily dealt with, which includes the following.
Moon Knight reacted to and moved in tandem with light (44% SoL)
Wolverine takes a punch that sends him from New York to Georgia (the country) (1.3 tons of TNT)
Wolverine beat the piss out of a woman who had the strength to move mountains (2.23 Kilotons of TNT - 37.54 Kilotons of TNT)
Wolverine and Deadpool have both dodged Cyclops’ Optic Blast, which moves at light speed
Cyclops has also redirected his optic blast in a nanosecond
Iron Fist's punching power has been compared to that of a hydrogen bomb, (0.1 - 50 Megatons)
Danny has matched and defeated Radion, whose power is measured in hundreds of megatons (>200 Megatons)
Electro
While Hobie can likely scale to most other villains in Spidey's line-up, like Venom or the Green Goblin, Electro has most of the best feats, and Hobie's scaling is more direct. He fought various Electro's while working with the Web Warriors, and helped defeat a monster version, so it's fair to scale him to Max.
Caused a massive blackout and made an electrical storm that destroys helicopters nearby
Powered a Quantum Particle engine that would destroy New York (316.5 megatons)
Drained all of New York City's power into himself (756 Megatons of TNT)
Several Electro's could cause an explosion showing up on the curvature of the earth (42.47 Petatons of TNT overall, 424.7 Gigatons individually, see Before the Verdict)
Sonic
Sonia and Manic
As his beloved siblings and the other members of Sonic Underground, Sonia and Manic are fairly comparable overall to Sonic, and vise versa. Sonic is obviously faster than them as the fastest thing alive, and should be comparable to their powers given the similarities behind their origins and extent of ability. We do know Manic is said to have the strongest of their powers, but all of their abilities are required for music and the power of it, meaning Sonic would have to be at least somewhat comparable to him overall. Thus, he should compare their feats.
Sonia has…
Dodged energy blasts on multiple occasions
Spun in a tornado large enough to throw a giant ship into the ground and destroy it
Manic has…
Created earthquake from that spit rocks up hard enough to destroy multiple ships or opened chasms that spit lava out
Casually shook the area around a mountain and made it collapse, destroying a factory in the process (121.22 Tons of TNT)
With his hardest drumming yet, Manic overpowered and dispersed a Chaos Emerald Tornado (See Before the Verdict)
Sonia and Knuckles were also right next him despite the noise and wind pressure of his playing
Sleet and Dingo
Robotnik's first and foremost flunkies; and Sonic’s regular fools. These two have frequently gotten outmatched fairly easily by Sonic, with or without his guitar, so upscaling from them is rather easy to prove
Sleet has…
Dodged and tanked stray Chaos Emerald blasts and later a blast from Dingo wielding it
Dingo has…
Dodged lasers/energy beams while in a speed boosting form
Turned into a safe that could contain the energy of the Emerald for a period of time
Directly tanked the energy of the Chaos Emerald after combining its split halves (which makes the energy more unstable mind you) for an extended period of time given he only let go NEXT episode (1.5 Ronnatons individually, 31.5 Ronnatons of TNT altogether, see Chaos Emerald Scaling and Before the Verdict)
The Chaos Emerald (Debatable)
Just like most other Sonic media, Sonic Underground has the mystical Chaos Emeralds as magic macguffins that are pretty much the strongest power in the universe. In this world, there’s only a few Emeralds, but they are still used for equally dangerous events. The biggest example is when Robotnik got his hands on one, but it was split and scattered to other areas of Mobius while everybody raced for it for their own means. This event nearly destroyed the entire planet, and Sonic has means to scale to it that we will discuss more in detail later on. For now, here is the Emeralds capabilities.
On its own…
Should be similar to Knuckles’ own, which keeps his island floating indefinitely
Was stated by several characters who know full-well its capabilities, like Knuckles, AIthair, or Robotnik, to be able to cause Chaos all over Mobius and destroy the entire planet
While split, it…
Created a large storm
Created earthquakes and ruptures across areas it took Sonic multiple minutes to get to while driving his van
Implied to have set off a volcano by Sonic
Created energy flashes over the entire planet extending out into space (31.5 Ronnatons of TNT and 15% SoL)
When wielded by Dingo…
Created a large earthquake
Was stated a threat to Mobotropolis
Robotnik has also stated the Chaos Emerald was his most powerful weapon. This would, of course, extend to all of his other machines he's built or weapons he wanted to use throughout Sonic Underground, as well as most other feats in general, like...
Machines that could destroy a forest (11.82 - 79.708 Tons of TNT)
A decent assortment of Robotnik's ships could destroy a large castle
Sonic's ancestor believed that Sleet and Dingo forces could destroy a pyramid
A power stone held in Mobodome sustains the city's existence and keeps up a large cloud around the city. Without it, both would fade for good.
This was said by its mayor to be capable of destroying the entire town with a power surge should Underground charge their medallions on it, and the stone being removed instantly turned the clouds above the city into a storm.
Aleena believed Robotnik's forces could destroy the area around a Hydroelectric Dam, which included multiple mountains (453.58 Kilotons - 31.28 Megatons of TNT per mountain, so likely much more given the area)
A Fairy of the Emerald Peninsula stated she would restore the clouds over the area (123.74 Megatons - 1.114 Gigatons of TNT)
A machine Robotnik made could melt the Polar Ice Caps in 48 hours; sinking the entire planet underwater as a side effect (2.94 Gigatons of TNT per second, 507.424 Teratons overall)
Weaknesses
Spider-Punk
(This is actually how he looks now)
All Spider-Men are not created equal, and this is more true for Spider-Punk than anybody else. While he may hold the power of one comparable to Peter Parker, his intelligence is obviously inferior in no small amount, as outright stated by the Spider-Geddon Handbook. His straightforward mentality means he is just plain overwhelmed against stronger opponents like Kang the Conglomerator, and he rarely, if ever, has looked for other solutions or answers to these problems, unlike other Spider-Men. Against Kang for one, his "solution" was to just run, find, then sic his universe's Hulk on him.
He's also pretty brash and self-centered all things considered, and not a very experienced hero in otherworldly adventures unlike other Totems he has worked with, given the dystopian state of his world. This shows when, for example, he and a few other possessed Spider's like Gwen Stacy attacked Morlun during End Of The Spider-Verse, and he along with Noir were some of the first to get taken out.
Sonic
(An actual shot from the show)
Sonic is certainly incredibly powerful, but he is still rather arrogant at times due to being a teenager. He's a thrill-seeker at heart, and has gone out of his way to divert from plans or improvise when it isn't necessary, to prove his speed or otherwise. His Medallion can also be drained of its power from using its abilities, and should that happen from power overuse, it needs time to recharge. Although, over time this seems to have gotten less of a problem. For example, a song drained the medallions early in the series, but later on, they could destroy large ships battle several robots and use their medallions right after with power not being much of an issue.
Before The Verdict
Spider-Punk's Mech. Just… his Mech
Alright so, I'm guessing a few of you reading this are going “WHAT THE EVER-LIVING $%&#, HOBIE HAS A MECH?!” and yeah, I did too. I only found out about this by checking Hobie's appearances again on the Marvel Database. He got this only mere months ago, and I didn't see this coming in the slightest. Now, there are 2 questions you may be asking:
Is this standard?
Is it comparable to Leopardon?
To both, the answer is no. For the former, he needed multiple other people to pilot this, so in a solo battle where he is on his own, that's more of a flaw than a boon. While the Spider-Van is his, this was essentially dropped on the Battlefield out of nowhere and in need of repairs after, so it's not like he can summon this at any time to aid him in battle. We'll talk more about this angle later on.
Moving on to potential comparisons to Leopardon… yeah, no, it doesn't scale at all. It was based on it, sure, but in a primitive world with nowhere near the tech or the resources to make something of its caliber, on top of noticeably failing to one-shot the enemy when Leopardon has never had this problem with Sword Vigor. There is nothing suggesting it is anywhere close to the enemies Leopardon can duel, and is essentially just a large Stat Boost for Hobie.
Sonic Underground Lasers
A large portion of potential speed feats from Sonic Underground are based on energy beams that other people react to, as well as Sonic. So, are they legitimate? Probably not. Several of them do follow rules of real life lasers, like moving in a straight line, burning objects, reflecting/bouncing off of reflective surfaces, and being focused through objects like a gem, but several more cases break rules, like exploding or showing force. Every “laser” that I could find either lacked sufficient details to prove their being a laser, or was debunked by explosions and such. Thus, they probably aren’t legitimate.
Is Sonic Faster than Light?
Another question you might be asking is if Sonic really is faster than light. To that, I'm fairly certain he is. While you can discount all the potential laser timing examples, he's still done some pretty crazy speed feats while not exactly pushing himself. He's shown hypersonic speed while exhausted, massively hypersonic speed in running to other countries in minutes, and has potential claims of counting in Nanoseconds or “Sonic-seconds” as he later talks of. He's also been on the receiving end of multiple FTL statements, meaning at the least that was considered possible in-verse. Sonia's statement and reaction in particular lend credence to this, where the quote goes as follows.
Sonia: “Sonic, check out that hovercraft for clues.”
(Sonic pulls out the clues she spoke of, inherently proving her wrong)
Sonic: “Got his car keys, dog tags (conversation continues around that).”
In essence, the joke is clearly that Sonic did in fact move that fast in order to search the area, hence Sonia’s shock at him casually moving at that speed. It’s a pretty self-explanatory gag that would indicate he is moving that fast. By itself, it seems a little weird given other more grounded feats in the series, but other angles support it. For another one, there is also Manic’s own humorous exchange with Sonic over it, which is as follows.
Manic: “Sonic, don’t you think we should get moving?”
Manic: “Yo, Sonic, wait for me!”
Sonic: (runs back) “How do you like that? I am faster than light!”
Similarly to the prior joke, it also revolves around a character claiming Sonic is faster than light, which is then proven right by the dialogue and meaning of the joke. Technically speaking, if you take the scene literally, Sonic would actually be faster than light anyway. Running that distance to and back while cutting the power, before it could cut off through the circuits, means he could potentially be outpacing the electricity in them in order to make it back before they took effect. Assuming you buy that train of thought and don’t think it took longer because the big building he cut power to took a while to go off, the speed of electricity in a wire moves at 90% the speed of light, and he would be outpacing that due to making it back before the lights turned off from that lack of energy.
So, two select gags that have both showcasing Sonic’s speed as faster than light as part of the joke, where one can be argued to have him that fast anyway. Aside from that, other factors do support Sonic at the least being close to it. We will get to it a bit more later on in its own section, but several characters in the show, Sonic included, have dodged blasts from the Chaos Emerald, which shot beams out of orbit at 15% the speed of light. Not only is Sonic frequently established as the fastest creature on Mobius, meaning he would already upscale all of that to a pretty decent degree, but Robotnik himself has said “nothing” is as fast as Sonic twice.
For those curious, the quotes are
Subject 1: Sonic broke Robotnik’s forcefield with his sheer momentum, earning this reaction.
Robotnik: “It destroyed my forcefield! Nothing can be that fast! What is it?!”
Subject 2: Robotnik aimed to take advantage of Sonic’s ego and bait him into a trap by announcing a race. As the fastest thing alive, Sonic wanted to prove it, and Robotnik was banking on that. The trap was simply to lure him there, and he said this in regards to the actual angle of a race.
Sleet (when talking of a robot made for the race): “Is it as fast as Sonic?”
Robotnik: “Nothing is as fast as Sonic. This speed-bot is only bait for the trap.”
In both examples, Robotnik could not possibly be lying or overestimating Sonic’s capabilities. The first example was him actively losing it over the fact that his forcefield was broken, literally exclaiming that he believed nothing could be fast enough to do that. His second is even more cut-and-dry, where in the context of potentially crafting something to outpace Sonic, Robotnik bluntly stated that nothing could move faster than him. This is also repeatedly established to the point that both an entire episode and song were about people trying to gain Sonic’s speed, which they stated made him “the fastest thing alive.”
This obviously acts as blatant proof Sonic upscales everybody else in speed, putting him much higher than the 15% Speed of Light reactions even fodder characters without super-speed like Sleet have showcased, or the reactions of other characters like Sonia and Knuckles. Actually, Robotnik’s statement that Sonic is the fastest thing alive and that nothing is as fast as him would include the Chaos Emerald, which cements Sonic being superior to it. Finally, as a more humorous argument, if you really think about it, Light itself would classify as a thing that can be measured in speed (duh) and Sonic is the fastest thing alive, so… yeah.
Conclusion: Sonic has been on the receiving end of two gags which are entirely based on his being faster than light, and the reactions to that joke are shock in relation to him actually being that fast. One of those feats can be argued as high relativistic anyway (Manic and cutting the power), and Sonic would upscale other characters who can dodge relativistic attacks from the Chaos Emerald. He should reasonably upscale the Emerald itself given, in both this and the formers case, he is established as the fastest thing alive. Ergo, Sonic should be faster than the speed of light.
Regarding higher Spider-Punk Scaling
This had to come up at some point. Here, we will be talking about all of the main ends pushed for Spider-Man scaling, as power is a big factor in the debate. If you are curious about any that seemed left out, don’t worry, all will be explained later.
One thing to clarify is that I am not trying to debunk or downplay all of the ends pushed across the various blogs and the like that I have pulled this information from. I am simply giving my thoughts on these after having read the full context.
Exajoule Excitement
Starting off, let's cover one of the more talked about feats for Peter Parker, where he survived a blast from a device capable of outputting energy over an Exajoule. An Exajoule is equal to 1 quintillion joules, or just over 239 Megatons of TNT; nearly 5 times as powerful as the deadliest nuclear weapon ever set off. It seems pretty straightforward as a feat, right?
239 Megatons = Power Requirement of the Sandman ≈ Scepter of the Manticore's energy ≈ Spider-Man
While the feat is ultimately usable in my opinion, it's not as straightforward as you'd think. Jumping back to context, Spider-Man actually tanked multiple blasts from the scepter beyond just the one the image frequently pulled from showcases. His suit wasn't even damaged, and he is shown fighting Shiklah later while taking and dishing out clear damage on both parties. Afterwords, Peter was shown walking around without any broken bones or anything, so it's looking impressive from here on.
One problem, however, is during the original blast, another character states that it would kill Peter if kept up. This does muddy up the waters a bit, as Peter was clearly decently damaged from this given screams and it bringing him to the ground. Even if his costume didn't appear damaged, the narrative is pointing out that he would ultimately succumb if this was kept up. Regardless, he did survive two blasts from the Scepter without much lasting damage, so downscaling from the energy should be applicable. However, another problem is the actual strength of the object in question.
The Scepter of Manticore first showed up in Secret Wars after Dr. Doom rewrote the multiverse upon gaining the power of the Beyonders. So, being the perfectionist that I am, I read through that and other examples of the Scepter. Shiklah actually sought it out due to its ability (both stated and shown) to outright kill the vampire lord, Dracula. Dracula's reputation is extraordinarily impressive in terms of power, and much higher than Spider-Man's, which would then lead to the possibility of considering it an outlier. One could argue it killed Dracula through ability and not necessarily potency, but that same fight had Shiklah use it to kill a member of the Thor Corps, who are in similar standing to somebody like Dracula.
I'm assuming at least some of you would retort with “Those Scepters aren't the same! This one could be weaker!” To that argument's credit, this is a valid concern with how many multiversal variants of certain characters pop up every now and then to unintentionally make a mess out of scaling. The issue is, Secret Wars was still in the main 616 timeline and none of the characters really suffered a loss in power or ability unless Doom willed it so. What's more, the 616 Shikla, post-Secret Wars, found the Scepter through visions of her alternate self, and nothing indicated it changed at all in appearance or otherwise.
Conclusion: So, where does that leave it? Personally, I don't see much of an issue using the feat, albeit in downscaling terms. Weapons being able to kill stronger opponents hasn't stopped feats like Batman’s infamous 6 Kiloton nuke showing being used, even though it knocked out people much stronger like Superman. Other Marvel characters aren't exempt from that either, so, under that standard and your own opinion of whether or not it applies, Spider-Man should downscale 239 Megatons of TNT.
Awe of Atlantis
While this feat hasn't been as pushed as some others, it needs to be discussed anyway. Essentially, the argument is that Peter withstood a blast from the Cosmic Cube, which was stated on-panel as equivalent to the explosion that “sunk Atlantis.” If that was all that there was to it, maybe it could be used, but context is yet again the killer to a potential feat.
In the example itself, the explosion from the Cube (which itself is a massively powerful reality-warping weapon much stronger than the previously noted Scepter) defeated a massive serpent. That matters because this very monster was beating the brakes off of an explicitly serious Thing and Dr. Strange, who, like Dracula, are consistently much stronger than Peter. Still, given the reasoning for accepting the Exajoule scaling, where weapons with stated yields are taken at face value even if they have knocked out higher-up characters, then it shouldn't still be usable? Once more, no.
The Cube was noted to turn thoughts into reality, and merged Spider-Man with Thing as well as Scarlet Witch. More importantly, Dr. Strange was pretty evidently shocked they survived without damage, in relation to this very attack. Keep in mind, even if you think he could have tanked in, it was established they were virtually untouched. All of them were holding the object that unleashed the blast, and given it was established it turned thoughts into power, it's much more likely it simply protected then from the blast then “they all tanked it with zero damage while holding a reality-warping object.” Scarlet Witch, who was at that point objectively weaker physically than Spider-Man, also suffered no damage either, so it's really just not a great argument as opposed to context proving otherwise.
Even so, let's say you use it anyway despite all the red flags. It surprisingly wouldn't get very high. From the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Volume 2 Issue 1, it gives explicit context on how and why Atlantis sunk. Atlantis, which was around the size of Australia, was destroyed by a cavalcade of factors. King Kamuu opened magma-pits on invaders that the city used for heating, which resulted in volcanic pressure beneath the city that triggered a seismological cataclysm. This spread to Earthquakes across the entire continent and several volcanic eruptions. Concurrently, the Celestials caused a nuclear cataclysm and world-shaking shockwaves which combined to sink the city, and eventually the continent, in a week.
For a simpler explanation, Atlantis sinking was due to a multitude of factors and not a singular explosion that outright sank the continent. The original explosion that kickstarted it was simply a volcanic eruption, which kickstarted multiple across Atlantis that were not related to it specifically. The thing that sunk it outright was the Celestials and their attack, which itself was multiple factors that pushed the already damaged continent over the edge, and even then it took a week to actually sink Atlantis as a whole. Due to that, it's virtually impossible to attribute this full number of something like that to this statement, and even assuming just taking the original eruption would end in something city-level at best.
Conclusion: The feat is shot in the foot by context, and Spider-Man didn't actually tank the damage, nor did the others, thanks to the Cube protecting him. Even if it was usable, what actually sank Atlantis were several geological disasters coinciding with each other that aren't really compatible with a “singular blast.”
Electro's Electric Boogaloo
For those who read the original blog before I rewrote it, you'll remember this feat being talked about. Essentially, the feat is that multiple Electro's energies were funneled in a complicated scheme to save the Multiverse, which blasted in an explosion showing up against the curvature of the Earth. A lot has changed, including calculations, as now it was redone to receive a whopping 42.47 Petatons of TNT in terms of Power Output. So, how does this scale to 616 Spider-Man and thus Spider-Punk? Well, it's complicated.
Starting off, the main and obvious issue is that this feat wasn't done by a singular Electro. It was achieved by the Battery, a combined conglomerate of sorts composed of a massive number of Electro variants, thereby making individual power much less. For an exact number, it's been guesstimated as 1,000 before, but fortunately, they provide an exact number when facing down a Spider-Totem in an Uncle Ben. The conversation proceeds as follows:
Battery: “HA HA HA HA! And what is this little man wearing?”
Battery: “You think you can overpower us? We are a hundred hundred minds.
As it states, the Battery is composed of “a hundred hundred minds” or rather, 100 × 100, which would make it worth 10,000 Electros. Given we already have the number of 42.47 Petatons (42.47 Quadrillion Tons) we can simply divide it by 10,000 to get an individual Electro capability, which lands 424.7 Gigatons each. That sounds like a massive upgrade to things, right? Once again, context proves this far more tricky than it would seem.
For more details on the plan, Hobie had used this same Robot that the Battery was piloting prior, and he explicitly noted it was the same process. Specifically, this was the Web Warriors resident geniuses having the Bracelets they use to travel the multiverse as feedback amps. They would resonate with each other over the Web, upping the signal on each one, and using the bottomless Power Supply of the robot to summon more Spider-Totems to their location. In short, this process is taking one fiber of energy and threading it through multiple (the bracelets) for a resonating and increasing pulse much stronger then before.
As a reminder, Hobie outright states after being explained in the process that it was exactly like before, where, once again, he is playing with a literal amp. Except this time, it is also fueled by the Electros, and adds even more power to be amplified as it resonates with each other, per the original explanation. In other words, the energy present is being multiplied beyond its original reach, or “amped” to to speak, and this ensures that the actual number present to a singular Electro after this would be much lower. His main 616 self has achieved feats in the several hundreds of Megatons, so it's likely higher to some degree, but it's much more unlikely he would actually scale to over 400 Gigatons when everything is said and done.
For final notes, actually scaling to the number in full isn't doable if anybody is curious. Nobody tanked the explosion outright, the robot was noted as indestructible and unstoppable to them several times, and this also holds an issue that the explosion shook the Web Of Life to harm somebody controlling it, which opens that prior can of worms the other feats shared.
Conclusion: Due to division, an individual Electro at most would wield over 400 Gigatons (the original number divided by 10,000, per the Battery's statement) which would likely be cut further by the amplifying nature of the feat through how it was pulled off.
Chernobyl Chicanery
By far one of the most pushed Spider-Totem feats as of late. For those not in the know, Spider-Man 2099, A.K.A Miguel O’Hara, once fought a super-soldier from the Cold War named Chernobyl, who created an explosion visible against the curvature of the Earth. Measuring that blast yields a massive 51.18 teratons of TNT, and this is actually decently supported. Chernobyl himself states the explosion would decimate an area of over one thousand kilometers in radius, which also yields 22.776 Teratons (how convenient!). You can probably see where this is going given the feat-killer known as… context. Let's break this down.
Starting, the argument is that since Chernobyl survived the explosion, and Miguel could obviously fight as well as damage him, he would then compare to the explosion (basic VS Scaling logic). Miguel scaling to Chernobyl is all well and good, the issue is that Chernobyl himself doesn't scale to the explosion. In blatant terms, it was stated twice to come about as a chain reaction of his internal power supply, so it's not really his own power supply so much as a freak accident. He himself stated he couldn't have done better himself as an attack, which just screams that it built itself higher than he could normally achieve.
Of course, there's still the argument that he survived it to begin with. What's the issue there? Well, narratively, it makes no real sense. Miguel implied the explosion would kill both of them, and outright thought Chernobyl died after he blew up. As a reminder, he was fighting him evenly a mere minute ago, and he outright thought “oh, he's dead.” Even beyond that, it's unclear how he even survived at all considering the end of the story has him turn into… a being of energy? It is a bit unclear, but it's not a tonal or stylistic choice given the surrounding area is normal and the rest of the comic was drawn like average, and his feet are just gone, while his whole body is almost ethereal as it appears to fade when the comic closes.
Conclusion: The explosion to begin with was far stronger than Chernobyl's normal power output, was noted as a chain reaction that you can't really scale back to his base, and multiple sources from the narrative pushed that he would die to it. Even still, it's unclear how he survived to begin with given the energy angle and his potentially just dying later anyway. Regardless, this feat shouldn't apply to his physicality, nor any other Spider-Men by comparison.
An Iron Ignoramus
This one should be fairly short. This scaling chain is mostly just inconsistent on both ends and would require a more up-close look on their many interactions to actually say how much Peter scales if at all. There have been plenty of times where Peter has beat the brakes off Tony's suits of armors (like during Civil War or when he got amnesia… long story).
At the same time, there's also occasions where Iron Man defeats Peter or his rogues with relative ease like Kraven. Due to a lack of Spider-Man research (don't worry, I plan to fix that), it's really hard to say if this should be entertained, or if any of you reading would accept it to begin with due to Iron Man classifying as a Herald™. So, I'll just remain neutral, and discuss what it could mean for Hobie in the Verdict.
Conclusion: Yeah, I’m not touching this one.
Regarding higher Sonic Scaling
Similar to Spider-Punk's section, here, we will talk about Sonic's own higher end feats and such.
Mountain Mayhem
This one is a pretty simple topic. Queen Aleena (who had no reason to lie or overestimate Robotnik's forces) believed they would destroy the area around a Hydroelectric Dam. This is important because it has been shown to include multiple mountains, landing 453.58 Kilotons - 31.28 Megatons of TNT per 1 destroyed mountain. Given it was likely much faster than destroying the mountains one by one, the overall yield would logically be higher. Scaling to this comes from the Chaos Emerald, which we'll talk about more later on.
Fairy Cloud Creation
This should mostly elaborate on the Fairy's feat and how Sonic compares. Essentially, she created a cloud barrier that would completely shield the Emerald Peninsula from Robotnik's force, in reference to her first one lasting over a decade.
Starting with the details, this barrier did in fact act as a protection against Robotnik's sensors, with him only finding them through pollution cutting through these clouds in the present day. That is important, as his pollution was kickstarted, along with his rule, when Sonic was an infant; about 15 years ago. Ergo, the maximum thickness/size for the clouds is more than warranted, especially given they did shield a large island from his gaze for that long anyway.
As for how big the island is, it is obviously a peninsula, which Robotnik states has thousands of inhabitants. It is reaffirmed multiple times as a peninsula, and shown with multiple mountains on it as well. Obviously it should already be pretty big from that part alone, and Sleet/Dingo have also complained of how much ground to cover there actually was. The best indicator though is specifically what Sonic says in regards to where he parked a ship. For simplicity, basically, earlier on in the episode Sonic stole a transport ship full of prisoners and dumped it elsewhere in the island, which very clearly wasn't the edge of it or anything. Later, when asked where he put the ship, Sonic explicitly mentioned it was 70 kilometers north, which equals 43.4959834566 miles.
For what this makes the island overall, it's obviously much bigger than the statement Sonic made. The building they were at when he made the statement wasn't the edge, nor was it where he parked it. At bare minimum, if you say the building WAS at the edge, the ship still wasn't, and saying it was around the middle of the island still makes it at least twice as long (140 kilometers or about 87 miles). The Calculation used has the lowball of just 70 kilometers, a midball of 140/double that, and a highball of 210/triple that. The best overall bet is 140 kilometers, as 70 kilometers would only really apply if it was at the edge (where the ship would be in a lowball) and the building where Sonic made the statement of 70 kilometers north was at the other edge. The ship's landing area was clearly not the edge, nor was the building at the edge, so at minimum you would say the building is at the edge and the ship was around the middle of the island, therefore making it double the length.
As for how this scales? The Chaos Emerald is the strongest thing in the series so scaling to it would vastly upscale you from her.
Conclusion: The feat is fine, and with the noted ends and such, its most logical result would equal just under 500 Megatons of TNT, which the Emerald would upscale.
Creating a Constellation and causing a commotion
This one is rather odd, to be blunt. In essence, one episode of Sonic Underground had Sonia and Manic gain access to Sonic Tonic; a serum Robotnik created that gave any who drank it the speed of Sonic. Feeling unappreciated by Sonic due to his speed, his siblings decided to take it for themselves in order to stand on even footing with him. When they were singing about this in the textbook sing of the episode, it showed a variety of feats and visual showcases of what they would do with such power. One of these included Sonia apparently flying into space and creating a Constellation… somehow.
Moving right on in, simply calling it a song and therefore not actually happening in the real world doesn't really work. Even though they are more humorous and aimed at kids and such, most if not all of them are either what's actually going on or simple thematic showcases. For example, in one song about his mother, Sonic pulled out a telescope to search for her, which was a literal showing of him looking for her. Sonic cheering up an Island native with a song had him grow plants and follow the boy with the song, so it was literal. Several more of these examples exist, where they are either literally what's happening, or symbolic of that happenstance.
In the case of this specifically, it is more symbolic. Obviously they aren't actually nuking buildings or turning into constellations, but the point of the song was them dreaming about what they could do if they had Sonic's powers. From that angle, it simply becomes a point of the show appearing to showcase that Sonic could do that. The real issue is that this seems more like a visual choice then turning into hundreds of stars. The presumed feat in question is Sonia turning into a comet, flying into space, turning into a constellation, and said constellation falling into stars. The actual lyrics of the song are as follows:
Manic: “I wish I could go faster! I really wish I was the fastest thing alive!”
Sonia: “Here comes the Sonic blaster! And like a comet I go streaking ‘cross the sky!
Sonia’s line is more evident of simple wordplay and writing, due to it being a song, and it showcases her turning into a comet and streaking across the sky. Once again, a thematic choice rather than her literally turning into one and creating a constellation. Manic does something similar to her, but given the previous notion, it’s much more likely they were instead showcasing visual effects for the song rather than actually showcasing Sonic could do it himself. Assuming you don’t agree, and think he could in fact do this? Well… there’s not really much that would counter it.
Conclusion: The feat is likely a visual style for thematic pairing rather than a showcase that Sonic’s speed could allow this, given the lyrics of the song and other factors. If you buy it despite that, there’s really not much one can say against it.
Polar Pandemonium
Similar to the Mountain section earlier, this one is incredibly blatant. Robotnik outright states that his plant will melt the Polar Ice Caps in 48 hours, sinking virtually the entire planet underwater. This is actually perfectly backed up, as melting the polar ice caps would raise the sea level enough to flood nearly every coastal city on the planet, so it’s evident that is his plan and what it was doing. Since we know this would take 48 hours, we simply need to find the overall yield and divide it by energy output per second. Thanks to our resident Calculator, Normal (you’re the best) we can find that overall this would take a whopping 507.424 Teratons worth in energy, and 2.94 Gigatons per second once transferred to how much would be done in a second.
This scales back to Sonic like all other machnines do, through the Chaos Emerald. We will specifically talk more about this feat in the next Before the Verdict section, so read there if you are still curious.
Conclusion: The feat is logical and precise, lands 507.424 Teratons overall (2.94 Gigatons per second), and scales through the Chaos Emerald.
Chaos Emerald Scaling
So, allow me to go into a bit more detail on this, since it might come across as strange to anybody reading this. The Chaos Emerald in total is the most powerful object we see in the series, and where most of Sonic’s more impressive scaling comes from, should you buy it. In total, it is obviously stronger than Sonic, and everybody else in the series for that matter. It's been stated to be such before, and that Sonic Underground couldn’t stop it entirely. However, scaling to portions of it in speed and power are quite consistent. The examples of this are as follows.
Sonic while spinning could resist a Chaos Emerald powered wave that disintegrated a Swatbot and should have done the same to him, but he was fine. This energy wave also blasted a large beam out of the ship, which was a showcase to how much power it would be.
Sonic’s van could tank blasts of chaos energy while getting recharged by its energy without getting destroyed.
Dingo endured repeated energy shocks and blasts from the even more dangerous split emerald, for multiple minutes no less, and he was able to channel it through his body later in his, albeit forced, monster transformation without dying.
Sleet directly tanked a wind blast from a Chaos Emerald amped Dingo, as well as stray Chaos energy earlier
Manic drumming his hardest directly overpowered a portion of the Emeralds power that was going to destroy a city at least
Going example by example, let's start with the security on Robotnik's warship. He would obviously place plenty of power into this sort of thing, and it doesn't make sense for him to restrict much of the power on wiping out intruders. Even in the moment, it flat-out disintegrated a Swatbot, which is a very rare occurrence compared to all the other times they have been destroyed. So, it’s logical he was using a decent amount of power, and enough to warrant scaling to everything else given context. Moving to the van, this is pretty straightforward, where it tanks the growing energy of the Emerald. Even if you want to say this wasn't full power, it was still creating massive earthquakes and storms around this time anyway. Similarly, Dingo tanking the Emerald energy is just the most provable example.
Not only did he outright tank the energy for an extended period of time, but this energy created bursts of Chaos power extending beyond the entire planet, and this can be attributed directly to him. Last time, it wasn’t calculated, but this time, we did, and it received a whopping 31.5 Ronnatons of TNT that the Emerald gave off. Sonic has pretty visibly dominated several fights with Dingo over the series, with or without his guitar, and thus he would comfortably scale to this. Assuming you want to attribute this durability to his shape-shifting by some other reasoning, he did this in his base physical form, so that doesn’t work either. Next, Sleet later tanked a blast from Dingo when he was powered by the entire Chaos Emerald. Now, it's likely he wasn't using all of his power, but even casual usages of it during this form have erupted multiple volcanoes, and Sonic is much stronger than Sleet.
The only way you can disrupt this is simply claiming “outlier,” which really isn’t the best logic considering certain ends argued for Spider-Man characters in strength and speed. Even still, we have and are establishing that characters can scale to aspects of the Emerald, and Dingo simply took a larger amount of it. The Emerald was stated as capable of destroying the entire planet, but that’s not really a hard limit on its power that would prevent it from naturally being stronger than that. Certain planet explosion calculations land higher numbers than baseline anyway, so it’s not much of a problem.
Finally, Manic directly overpowered and dispersed a Chaos Emerald tornado while drumming his hardest in the series. While Manic is stronger than Sonic, he would still have to be in his brother's general ballpark for their songs against Robotnik to work, and their powers all come from a similar source. Also, both Sonia and Knuckles were right next to him and survived the energy he was giving off without much of a lingering issue, which gives more credence to scaling.
So, scaling to portions of the Chaos Emerald is pretty consistent, and Robotnik has stated it is his most powerful weapon. This is further cemented by a stable Emerald being used to power a flying fortress of his as his strongest weapon yet, and the only source of power that could fuel said weapon, which would include other energy sources throughout the series. Its flying was treated as a passive sort of thing without requiring too much energy, similar to how another Emerald held Knuckles island in the sky indefinitely. It clearly has much bigger energy reserves than anything so far even while casual, so even a small portion of the Emerald should be superior or at the least scale to all of Robotnik's technology and wanted weapons. Sonic downscaling from that would thus scale him to just about anything in Sonic Underground, which you can look to the prior section for more information on.
Multiversal Cross-Scaling
You may have noticed a relative lack of cross-scaling from certain Spider-Man media, as showcased in the fantastic blog by my buddy Tru, Arkham Batman vs Insomniac Spider-Man. I highly recommend you read it and all that his team pulled off in documenting Spider-Man’s multiversal shenanigans. Still, why not include the many feats from media like the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, Marvel vs Capcom, or the Toei Spider-Man series? Where’s the Symbiote Dragons? To that, I simply say… no. I am not talking about any of those arguments.
The 3 former media examples mentioned are all based on scaling to their version of Spider-Man taking on high-tier threats and earning that scaling. Then, in the inevitable Spider-Verse meeting, comic characters will scale, and then these higher levels will be argued. Not here, though. Not only do similar high-ends exist in the comics closer to Hobie’s actual source material (Zangief has a 10.68 Teraton feat in Marvel vs Capcom 1, and Cherynobol’s debatable feat also gets teratons), but any of the ends present for something like Ultimate Spider-Man (both the cartoon and the comic for that matter) don’t stack up to this level beyond megatons and gigatons. There’s really no point in rehashing that when another blog explains it better, especially given it wouldn’t matter to the debate. Even in terms of other higher arguments like MFTL Spider-Man or cross-scaling to MCU Thanos or something, I think applying all of that to Spider-Punk is ridiculous, to be entirely honest.
Cross-scaling characters to other media they are in, no matter the context, has always been pretty controversial in vs, and Spider-Man characters are no different with all that has been pushed recently. With so many arguments that I don’t care to discuss that will have people in arms no matter what I buy, I’m simply not going to play that game. None of the cartoons and games given for scaling get past the numbers present in the comics, and the Symbiote Dragon feat only invites discourse for something that wouldn’t matter to the debate either way, no matter who would end up winning. This is also ignoring the biggest elephant in the room: Sonic Underground has its own arguments of cross-scaling, but to Archie Sonic of all people.
For those unaware, Sonic in the Archie Comics series had his own multiverse even early on in the series, where he frequently met other alternate dimension versions of himself. This includes Zonic the Zone Cop, his anti-verse doppelganger in Scourge the Hedgehog, Princess Blaze of the Sol Dimension, and oh so much more. These terms also involve other incarnations of Sonic specifically in matters to cartoons. Sonic X and Sonic Boom have their own comics set in the Archie Multiverse, and early Archie was even based on the SATAM Sonic series. This also includes Sonic Underground himself, which can be argued as outright canon to Archie Sonic specifically.
Long story short, Archie Sonic ventures to their dimension in another multiverse hop due to missing them the last time, and it’s pretty much identical to the show. Their backstory is practically word-for-word taken from the show, the main villains (Robotnik and Sleet & Dingo) show up, and they are shown as going on multiversal tours later in the series, reaffirming they still exist in the canon. Ian Flynn, long-time Sonic writer, even planned to give Prince Sonic and the Underground canon a true ending via the spin-off series Sonic Universe. Sadly, it was canceled by Sega, with Flynn saying the show was off-limits for some reason. There was concept art and covers drawn for it, and Flynn would have put the plot in a sort of collection book of failed ideas like that after the issue of Sega’s refusal, but the comic line as a whole got canceled, and it went under as well. What’s more, Sonic Underground has always been very much disconnected from the games, and more in line with the 90’s SATAM stories of fighting for freedom against Robotnik while being voiced by Steve Urkel.
So, the show is disconnected from the games entirely, has shown up in Archie Sonic exactly as the show has portrayed it, and is treated as canon to it enough that Flynn tried to give a legitimate ending to the series multiple times, which itself was supposed to be a one-time thing due to circumstances surrounding the series and its lack of an ending. Heck, in the (then actual, now alternate) future of the series, Sonic named his children after his alternate universe siblings. I’d say that’s pretty decent evidence for you to take it as canon if Hobie gets to rely on much more scattered scaling across shows or media he’s never even interacted with. Assuming you go this route, Underground Sonic would get pretty reliable scaling to the main Archie Sonic feats. Not only are the alternate Sonics treated as comparable to each other, like Sonic and Anti-Sonic, but Sleet and Dingo actually restrain the latter and imprison him, with Underground Sonic later fighting alongside Archie Sonic against a giant robot. Whether you wish to include it for him is up to you, but it's only necessary if you want it to be.
Either way, no matter what you choose, I am sticking to the actual comic-related feats for Spider-Punk for this so as not to discuss overused and unnecessary scaling that has already been discussed several dozen times over. Actually relying on them gets no higher than other calculations already discussed and adds nothing to the debate, let alone more debatable ends that will do nothing no matter what. Relying on all this multiversal mumbo-jumbo would then open the door for Sonic to potentially scale to Archie Sonic given noted details above, and no Spider-Man cross-scaling will save Hobie from that.
Conclusion: The noted arguments will not be discussed for several reasons, and relying on them leaves the logical counter-option of using Sonic’s own potential example in Archie Sonic. Still, feel free to disagree, as it is opinion-based at the end of the day.
Verdict
I would usually have a script here, but I’m busy, and I will write it later. Apologies. Also, check out this great song for the match-up from Brandon Yates!
Stats
Starting off with stats, let's talk power.
With just their base feats, it’s clear Sonic is much stronger than Hobie on average. His physical feats, like moving tank-sized ships or breaking through city-wide shields, are far more impressive than Hobie’s decapitating President Osborn or any other physical fight with robots that he has had. Sonic’s Guitar blasts destroying large ships leads more credence to this, and it’s clear that he’s not winning a strength competition through his own merit, so let’s turn to scaling to see how things get shaken up. Spider-Punk would scale to several other feats in the megaton ranges from other Spider-Totems across the multiverse, like Insomniac Miles Morales absorbing enough energy to vaporize Harlem (55.5 Megatons), or mainline Peter Parker taking various city-busting blasts ranging from 10 to 15 megatons of TNT. Even greater, Peter should realistically downscale his taking an Exajoule level weapon, which grants him up to 239 Megatons of TNT. From those, Sonic might seem a bit outclassed, but if anything Hobie is the one outmatched here.
Since Sonic has examples of downscaling from the Chaos Emerald, he should reasonably compare to or exceed virtually any other feat in the series. This includes that of other characters like the Emerald Peninsula Fairy, whose feat of creating clouds across that entire island yields about 495 Megatons of TNT, and double that of Spider-Man’s Exajoule feat. Since Peter would only downscale to such given context, and Sonic would upscale the cloud feat, that already gives Sonic a pretty hefty power advantage. Moving on to other ends, Spidey villain Electro also has feats in the hundreds of megatons, like his powering a machine that would destroy New York or draining the city’s power. The latter gets over 700 Megatons of TNT, but Sonic’s number is still not much lower, and again, he upscales it.
This sort of trend goes further the longer you look into their feats and scaling. Iron Fist can output hundreds of Megatons, but Sonic’s cloud number is over twice as powerful. Spider-Totems like Hobie upscale kiloton levels of strength, and the Chaos Emerald was directly stated Robotnik’s strongest weapon, which includes mountain busting gear. It goes even deeper, as it being the strongest thing he’s used would include the machine he used to nearly melt the North Pole, and that device has output equal to over 2 Gigatons per second; MUCH stronger than the majority of Hobie’s arguments. Still, higher ends for Totems exist, and could potentially outmatch Sonic depending on interpretation.
The Atlantis-sinking explosion that Spider-Man supposedly took was simply the cosmic cube protecting him, and even then it was a chain reaction, which makes the statement practically impossible to apply to Peter at all. Chernobyl’s 51 Teraton explosion is impossible to directly apply to Spider-Man 2099 in any meaningful way, and the Electro explosion was likely a multi-faceted attack, given the amp and signal notions and prior context. Still, downscaling from 424 Gigatons and 51 Teratons (again, the full numbers can’t apply) would be more powerful than the Ice Cap machine, so Hobie should be stronger at that point, right? Not so.
Essentially, both of the calculations listed above in full don’t really make sense to scale back to base Spider-Tiers. Given their highball nature, we can reasonably apply the same standard to the Chaos Emerald upscaling the Ice Cap machine. The Emerald casually powered devices Robotnik’s other technology could never, and given it is repeatedly established as the strongest weapon in the series, we could reasonably upscale it from the full value of melting the polar ice caps, which gets 500 Teratons of TNT. That is over 1,000 times stronger than the Electro yield, and over 10 times more powerful than Chernobyl’s explosion. At all ends of his scaling, Sonic holds a sizable power advantage, and this won’t change no matter how high you place Spider-Punk. Even if you were to include all manner of cartoon, movie, and video game scaling like Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel vs Capcom, none of it can stack up to Dingo’s surviving a blast from a Chaos Emerald.
This explosion yields over 30 Ronnatons of TNT, which eclipses any and all power arguments Hobie could ever hope to gain access to. Chaos Emerald scaling from characters like Manic support this, and Dingo outright survived this energy for multiple minutes. Keep in mind, Sonic has defeated Dingo every single time they have fought in the show, with or without his guitar, so he would more than compare to this kind of power. As such, no matter where you place either or what argument you could possibly make for Hobie, Sonic will always vastly outmatch him in raw power.
Moving to speed, it’s actually the opposite. Despite his nature as a speedster and “the fastest thing alive,” Spider-Punk actually holds the advantage for the most part. Sonic can achieve hypersonic and massively hypersonic speeds, but that’s standard reaction time for a Spider-Totem through dodging projectiles like bullets and lightning. Not only have they dodged lightspeed projectiles as well, but Spider-Man has routinely proven much faster than other street-tier characters like Captain America and Deadpool, who have also dodged lightspeed projectiles. Other characters like Daredevil and Cyclops can even react in a nanosecond, and Spider-Man has even proven much faster than a Daredevil so amplified he viewed super-soldiers like US. Agent as statues.
All of this grants a vast upscaling chain beyond lightspeed (3.33 times FTL is the benchmark he would upscale), and this places his reactions and attack speed in short bursts well beyond that. In Sonic’s case, he has dodged Chaos Emerald beams that could move at 15% the speed of light, and would likely be capable of speed even faster than light (see the BTV if you’re curious on better arguments). This is certainly impressive, but Spider-Punk’s upscaling from similar characters on a larger level would still grant him the speed advantage regardless… at least, somewhat. While Spider-Punk’s reaction speed and attack speed and short bursts are that fast, his physical movement speed is not, and he can not run nearly as fast as Sonic. Sure, Spider-Punk could still react to Sonic’s speed, but his movement is more than able to quickly escape any encounter going wrong for him in order to regroup, or to keep up with Hobie’s web-slinging.
Overall, Sonic takes strength, and Spider-Punk takes speed.
Arsenal & Abilities
Now, let's move on to the gear and powers these two bring to the field.
Hobie obviously has the standard spider-powers, like his precognitive Spider-Sense, enhanced agility, wall-crawling, and a resistance to things like electricity and sound from scaling to 616 Peter Parker. For weapons, he's got the classic web-shooters, plus some physical boons like his guitar, a bat, and vibranium boot heels, as well as the Kaiju elephant in the room we'll discuss later. As for Sonic, he's packing several variations of his super-speed, like homing attacks, spinning into and creating tornados, slicing through objects like a buzzsaw, flying (kind of) and vibrating out of material traps. His guitar also allows him to shoot electric blasts, summon lightning, let him alter his own gravity, disable technology, and heal itself from complete annihilation. Among these, he's also used complex busting bombs, his hoverboard, and Anti-Gravity Sneakers to run up walls or the ceiling. Comparing these directly, Sonic has a clear edge in most categories.
Their base physicals are roughly similar, but Sonic is easily faster in pure movement speed. What's more, he can match or counter pretty much all of Hobie's regular Spider powers. His Anti-Gravity Sneakers let him match Hobie's wall-crawling, and the material-burn application of his super-speed, as well as his cutting through objects like a buzzsaw, would allow him to break out of any web trap Spider-Punk would set up. While Hobie is faster, which his precognition furthers, his movement speed isn't quite fast enough to dodge the area of effect Sonic can throw out, and he would eventually suffer a deadly blow due to not just that, but also his inferior weaponry. Pretty much all of Spider-Punk's weapons are designed for close range, and very breakable against stronger opponents like the Inheritors. Not the best gear when up against a far superior ranged fighter with several ways to blast right through these or just tank them outright.
On the flipside, even if Hobie managed to steal Sonic's guitar and smash it to pieces, Manic's drums were fully destroyed and returned good as new, so Sonic's trusty weapon can't really be countered in this way. Even while it is gone, Sonic is far from helpless without it, and can always run to keep his distance while creating large tornadoes or hopping on his hoverboard to get out of Hobie's reach until it comes back, let alone setting off his explosives. The Guitar in general is much more versatile than Spider-Punk can cope with, and he's certainly not going to expect summoning lightning, growing plants, or anything else of the sort that it can do.
Now then, some of you might be curious about the Spider-Van. Surely it's inclusion would turn the tables right? Well, it realistically wouldn't be used if we were looking at “just Spider-Punk”. It requires several others to pilot, and he can't exactly summon it on his own given the circumstances surrounding it getting built. Even if you did give it to him, he's nowhere near smart enough to pilot it on his lonesome, and its larger size plus overall reduced speed would leave him wide open to Sonic's powers, who has also had plenty of experience in battling robot foes big and small.
To worsen this, let's say you did allow it on the field. A logical counter is thus giving Sonic the rest of Sonic Underground through his siblings' inclusion, which is more than fair considering the robot is basically giving Hobie his entire band. “What does that mean?” Well, remember Sonic's technology manipulation? This has allowed him and Underground as a whole to shut down technology en masse, meaning Sonic Underground can wholly counter the Spider-Van and shut it off in its tracks. Even Sonic on his own has shown technology manipulation before, meaning that simply playing his cards right by himself would lead to the same outcome, though he potentially doesn't have the AOE to affect all the robot at once. This is also not even getting into Sonic potentially shutting Hobie's powers off at any point, given how his music reversed genetic alterations like the Sonic Tonic with his siblings.
All in all, Sonic holds arsenal and abilities solidly.
Tertiary Factors
Moving onto tertiary factors, Sonic once more takes solid advantages.
Concerning experience, both have been doing this for a similar amount of time (a few years, give or take) and have fought a variety of unique foes. Hobie has fought electrokinetics before and should have a decent resistance to those kinds of attacks from ability comparison to Peter Parker, but this tolerance to it hasn't stopped Electro from seriously threatening Peter over the years, so it won't stop Sonic from killing Hobie. Meanwhile, Sonic has had much more experience using his powers, and more creative applications of them given his lifelong usages of his speed.
Moving to skill, Sonic is also the only one of the two who has received formal training, and has frequently gone on high-stakes missions of infiltration or otherwise. Hobie meanwhile is more of a brawler, and nowhere near as proficient in these areas as another Spider like Peter or Miles. Speaking of intelligence and battle prowess, Sonic holds a notable edge here as well. His battles with A.R.T alone are far more impressive than Spider-Punk, who is pretty consistently noted as much less intelligent than other Spider's.
Due to this, he's much less likely to try any theoretical win-conditions Peter Parker has tried, like ripping his limbs off with his magnetic crawling or suffocating him with web fluid; much less the fact he doesn't even know these can be used like this. So, his superior speed is fairly useless given his lack of options to capitalize on it, especially when he is far inferior in long range and has no counter to Sonic simply spamming blasts from a distance.
You COULD say Spider-Punk would recognize Sonic's Medallion could run out of energy and try to destroy it, but this isn't really a problem for multiple reasons. Sonic would obviously be wary of wearing out his power against Hobie, but even if that was a problem in the long run, not only would Spider-Punk have no way of exploiting it, but Sonic is just as strong without the Guitar, so he'd have plenty of time to just wait Hobie out and recharge it. Even if Hobie tried destroying the Guitar, Manics drums have survived complete destruction and recovered good as new, which means nothing Hobie could do would stop the Guitar, or keep Sonic from using it forever.
In short, Sonic's experience and skill are superior, his powers can’t really be altered by Hobie, and he's overall smarter by comparison. Sonic takes tertiary factors.
Conclusion
Spider-Punk
“What, saving the Multiverse by playing Rock and Roll with Gwen Stacy? WHAT DO YOU THINK?!”
Advantages:
Faster in reactions no matter what numbers are used
Technically more experienced in hand-to-hand brawls
Has fought a wider variety of foes, as well as speed demons and electrokinetics before
Mostly resistant to Sonic's arsenal…
Hilarious in Spider-Verse
Has Carnage as a dog
Disadvantages:
Not strong enough or smart enough to capitalize on his speed advantage
Inferior in intelligence and his strategies are basically useless against Sonic
…but his technology and powers are vulnerable to Sonic's Guitar
Worse when comparing close and long range, and is too based on up-close battles
His gear can't regenerate like the Medallion, nor can he reliably counter or destroy it due to that
Far less versatile
Spider-Man Unlimited got yoinked off the app store
Sonic Underground
“Hey! We’re not beaten yet, Knuckles! Don’t let Chaos get you down!”
Advantages:
Far stronger and more durable, with or without his Guitar
Much more versatile in weapons and powers, which can counter or shut off the majority of Hobie's options; even debatably messing with his powers outright
Better suited for long-range and has more tricks up-close
Superior technology survivability
Smarter and more level-headed
Actually found his mom in Archie's fan continuation (which is awesome btw) and the LCD game
Disadvantages:
Slower, weirdly enough
Not as experienced in pure hand to hand
Hasn't fought anybody quite like Spider-Punk
Will probably never get a continuation because Heaven forbid Sega touch any Sonic property besides mainline ever again
Never found his mom in the show
In conclusion, Sonic simply has all the advantages he needs to win. His consistent sheer power advantage is already quite the hurdle to get across, but even with Spider-Punk’s mostly superior speed, he lacks any consistent hax that can take advantage of it. Not only does Sonic possess far superior movement speed, but prevails in all tertiary factors like skill and intelligence. His arsenal and bevy of speed abilities lend him multiple counters to everything Hobie can throw at him, like vibrating out of his web traps or shutting off his robot thanks to technology manipulation. Any of the other musical powers he can access, are far more varied than Spider-Punk would expect, and given his blunt attack strategy yet lack of options to keep up that fight against a stronger opponent, all he can do is delay the inevitable. Spider-Punk got his boat rocked and rolled, which left him 6 feet Underground at supersonic speed.
The winner… is Prince Sonic the Hedgehog.

Why I like It
As with most of my more passion-based blogs, I will now briefly speak on why I like Spider-Punk vs Sonic Underground.
Connections
Both are alternate dimensional counterparts of legendary superheroes with almost arrogant senses of humor (Spider-Man and Sonic).
Their alternate worlds are dystopian horror incarnate; having been practically destroyed and taken over by usurper rules (President Osborn and Dr. Robotnik) which resulted in their being orphaned at a young age and growing up wishing to make a difference (Hobie was an orphan originally, and grew up wanting to change everything until he was bitten. Sonic was separated from his family in order to fulfill the Oracle’s prophecy, and made an orphan again when Robotnik roboticized his adoptive parents when he was a toddler. He then dedicated himself to the Freedom Fighters in hopes of overthrowing Robotnik).
Due to their childhood and circumstances, they joined resistance and freedom fighting organizations while working with many new friends in order to bring freedom back into the world.
Their worlds and stories are based on music, as well as finding a band to play with that helped them in their fight (Spider-Punk found allies like Captain Anarchy and M.C Strange that helped him restore balance, while Sonic found his siblings, who were destined to aid him in overthrowing Robotnik). Thanks to that music connection, they fight with it and are enraptured with it themselves, to the point of literally weaponizing it in song or through their guitars.
It’s simple, but fun. Alternate dimension versions of humorous heroes living in dystopian worlds that they combat with music. It’s really the perfect pick for both, as Hobie doesn’t have many music-based opponents with great connections to him, whereas Sonic fits that description perfectly. A Spider-Man vs Sonic idea is really interesting in concept due to how similar they are as heroes (often cocky teenager thrill-seekers who joke constantly), and this manages to suit that role with gusto. On top of that, it really lets both shine as separate characters from the versions people are more familiar with, like forcing Hobie to hit outside of his usual ballpark due to how versatile Sonic’s powers are, and for Sonic to have to fight a foe not that reliant on machinery. You can easily make all sorts of wonderful choreography choices thanks to Sonic being a speedster and electrokinetic, which Spider-Totems have dueled before. Banter would also be a relative goldmine with all the 90’s catchphrases Sonic has, which Spider-Punk could either call cheesy or lean into as well. Music would also be unmatched, due to Sonic’s potential by pulling from his iconic theme song. Given all the Spider-Man music that could be meshed with this for a 90’s to early 2000’s song, let alone lyrical potential as a must, there’s really plenty of fun to be had with this incredibly unique idea.
That’s about all I have to say on it, and thank you for sticking with me as I remake my blogs bit by bit. I’m trying to complete them all this month, and rest assured, I will try my best to keep that notion. Speaking of, how about that-
