Jubilee vs Mina Ashido (Marvel vs My Hero Academia): Round 1 Fight Blogs

“We all have pain and suffering, but what makes us and defines us in this life is how we face that pain, walk through it, and transmute it to our greatness.” - Siobhan Neilland

Jubilee, the free-spirited fireworks mall rat of Marvel’s X-Men

Mina Ashido, the acidic alien queen of My Hero Academia

It takes a lot of work to be a hero; especially in a world where almost everybody you know has crazy superpowers thanks to genetic mutations. Even so, with skill, courage, and much more than meets the eye from your average teenage girl, these boundary destroyers with boundless potential will burn away literally all obstacles in their path. With power to destroy all things, happiness that inspires all peoples, and hope that outmatch both? You’d better get ready for a dance-off duel of the century!

Round 1: FIGHT!!!

Before We Start…

In both cases, the main canon will be the primary focus for both of these lovely ladies. This means we will be analyzing the Earth-616 version of Jubilee; no What-If?'s or alternate timelines. On the other hand, Mina gets the Manga and Anime of My Hero Academia, the Ultra Archive/Analysis Databooks, and other facets of the series confirmed canon, like the movies or spin-off series Vigilantes. Also, heavy spoilers for both characters and their stories, given recent developments for both and My Hero Academia’s manga having ended (wow, time flew by from when I first wrote this, huh?).

Special thanks to Riley for some custom made images, and HUGE thank you to various Tumblr translators for their translations of the MHA databooks. I will link all of those to the correct profiles and such.

Enough of that though, let's get into it!

Background

Jubilee

“Then what are we waiting for? C’mon Rach, let’s pull off the impossible!

The X-Men are some of the most fearless (and fearsome) heroes Marvel has to offer. From the laser-eyed leader Cyclops, to the cryokinetic wonder Iceman, to the power stealing southern belle Rouge, to everybody’s favorite Canadian knuckle-head Wolverine. All of them seem different, but they share the same blessing, and the same curse; the X-Gene. This extra chromosome in human biology tells us the difference between Homo Sapien and Homo Superior; Human, and Mutant. Because humanity is nothing if not predictable, they grew to hate things they were jealous of, and thus mutants were feared, hunted, and killed around the world for years to come. Most mutants share a tragic backstory because of this, and Jubilation Lee, known by her friends as Jubilee, was no different.

Jubilee was born to immigrants from Hong Kong, who had made a wealthy life for themselves in the United States of America. Their joy at these events was where Jubilation's name came from after all. Jubilee had a rebellious streak, but was a rather extraordinary child nonetheless; from her unparalleled athletic skills to her proficiency in skating. Still, her spunk eventually landed her in trouble with some policemen during a prank with her best friend Cynthia, and in this stressful cornering, her X-Gene awakened, causing her hands to light up the alleyway with "fireworks.” Jubilee knew from then on that she was a Mutant, and that nothing would be the same, even as she tried to hide her powers from the others around her. Sadly, even that would not last, as her parents were soon murdered by Hunter Brawn; an associate of theirs who was stealing their money and did the deed to cover his tracks. Now an orphan, stripped of her family, and sent to orphanages as well as Juvenile Hall, Jubilee was forced to grow up beyond her years. She toughened up, learned how to fight, and ran away, going to hide in the Hollywood Mall, her home away from home.

Spending her days pissing off the local cops and entertaining the locals with her Fireworks, Jubilee was eventually cornered and caught by the M-Squad, a professional Anti-Mutant batch of killers. In a stroke of luck, she was saved by the women of the X-Men on a girl’s day out; Dazzler, Psylocke, Rouge, and Storm. As they summoned a portal back to their home, Jubilee realized her own wasn't safe anymore, and decided to test her luck, jumping through the portal before it closed. She ended up at the X-Mansion, and, after living there for a while, she met the best there is at what he does, Wolverine. She soon joined Logan on many of his adventures, becoming a sort of junior member of the X-Men, and even a little sister to her new buddy.

She would continue on across the years to find a new family with groups like Generation X and the Marauders, but would always come back to her first team. As time went by, Jubilee learned not just to hone her powers, but to accept and better herself, along with how to cope with such grievances as losing her powers, becoming a vampire, or the struggles of parenthood with her adopted son, Shogo. She was even dubbed impressive enough to legitimately join the X-Men in recent years at the Hellfire Gala (before that went very wrong, but that’s another story). Through it all, Jubilee never gave up, so as long as she keeps that undying spirit, she'll continue to take names, kick ass, and light up the night both her fireworks and her spirit of freedom.

Mina

“I know all about fear, cuz I'm weak! That weakness makes me wanna form packs and get close with people. That goes for our side, and your side too... that's what... defines us, right?”

At some point in your life, I'll bet you wish you had superpowers; that the Supernatural was natural, and that everybody could become a hero, including yourself. Welcome to My Hero Academia, where this is the reality of mankind. Evolution has gifted around 80% of the planet literal "Quirks" in biological mutations that allow them to use a specific superpower from a young age. With this new world straight out of a comic book, similar traits followed, like the villains that would use their powers for evil, and the heroes that would save everybody while stopping the evildoers in their tracks. To become a hero, one must obviously receive training, and no better place exists to hone your skills than U.A High, THE Hero Academia: the alma mater of legendary hero All Might . Among these prodigies are such stars as One For All wonder Izuku Midoriya, Zero Gravity martial artist Ochako Uraraka, and Half-Cold Half-Hot son of the current #2 Shoto Todoroki, among many more. Yet, standing besides these Titans is one of their best, their funniest, their most passionate, and an all-around joy to be with; Mina Ashido.

Mina was practically destined to be a hero from the moment she was born. She was almost like an angel born in human form with her bright demeanor and ability to make people happy; all by doing what she loved, like dancing. Her popularity and potential expanded when she received her Quirk; the ability to generate and control an incredibly powerful Acid. Her strength and confidence drew her many friends, but these attributes didn't disguise or hide the fact that she was still a teenage, mortal girl. She suffered staggering and brutal emotions just like all other kids her age did, such as the terror she felt when protecting her friends from supervillain Gigantomachia. Even when this courage inspired fellow schoolmate Ejiro Kirishima, she herself was far from the social pariah others believed her to be. Even so, she pushed past her fear and made it to U.A along with Kirishima, who underwent plenty of changes she was sure to tease him about.

In this new school, Mina found new friends, like Ochako Uraraka, Tsuyu Asui, and Momo Yaoyorozu. Their journey to becoming the best heroes they could be became all the more enjoyable, like in advancing her Quirk, training under teachers like Eraserhead and Midnight, but this happiness would soon go to Hell. A newly formed League Of Villains, and their subsequent efforts to tear down Hero Society as a whole, led to several attacks on the school, multiple casualties across the coming war, and several dealings of psychological trauma. Even her beloved teachers weren't safe, as several were injured, and one of her favorites, Midnight, was tragically killed. All of this made it incredibly hard for Mina to smile...but in her weakness, she found her strength.

She had understood what it was like to be weak, to feel powerless, and like all of her work meant nothing to an unstoppable threat. In those moments, she learned to never give up and keep pushing on; paving the way to a brighter future with her friends at her side to protect what she loves. By accepting her weakness, Mina found the strength to stand up to Gigantomachia once more while saving Kirishima, and played a major part in ending the war through that act. She grew up alongside her class to become an amazing hero, and even ranked 28th overall! Mina’s journey was always about inspiring others to be better, like with Kirishima, but in order to be her best self, she was in turn inspired by him, and all her other friends. With their strength in play with hers, Mina finally grew up to become the hero she always dreamed about being, and those same dreams will carry her into the future with a smile worthy of All Might’s.

Experience & Skill

Jubilee

Due to being a former student at Xavier's School, Jubilee has been exposed to virtually every type of combat and battle style imaginable. She already had "above-average" combat skill as stated by official guidebooks, along with some tricks picked up from Juvy, but her skill improved after receiving training from top-tier fighters like Wolverine and Emma Frost. This ranges from learning firearms knowledge and how to turn anything on hand to a weapon, to getting martial arts training from Logan and Raido, a multi-century old samurai. In battle, she has used her powers to blind foes several times over and her precision can hit the internal machinery of a robot or pick locks from a distance. She's rather adept at figuring out flaws in robotic foes in general really, and can accurately target thrusters or the like to knock them out of the sky, or blast the vision receptors out of a sentinel.

In pure hand-to-hand, she's defeated multiple ninjas, and even fought off multiple mirror clones of herself, while blind-folded no less, or outside of combat terms, she is an experienced thief, and knows how to patch up most wounds lickety-split. Her skills advanced in some point of the future to even be claimed as "the last X-Man" by the time-traveler Bishop. Actual combat tactics wise, Jubilee is a master ranger; able to blast foes from afar and at close range. Her style can primarily be described as a sort of anger inducement; purposely taunting foes or blinding them in order to get them to mess up mid-combat and leave themselves open.  There is a double-edge sword in this, in that she herself is prone to losing her cool, and that will actually make her have less control over her powers as a result. Even so, she was 15 when she started, and can currently go to bars, so she has at least 6 years of experience overall.

Mina

U.A High is the best Hero Academy in the country for a reason, and it speaks volumes to Mina’s potential that she has graduated it to begin with. While she may have trouble with standard tests and things of that nature, she has proven her skill in combat many times over. She's a crack shot with her Acid, and can accurately hit several targets in the air all at once, which she has shown on multiple occasions. With tips from her teachers, she has also learned to curve the trajectory of her acid, sort of like placing your finger over the nozzle of a hose to block the water flow and release it in different ways. With that tactic in mind, Mina has used it to enhance her Acid range and reach on specific points, made it move any which way she wants in battle rapid-fire, and a variety of other useful methods I'll go over later. She has been credited by multiple intellectual individuals like Deku as having excellent body control, physical strength, and combat both close-quarters and afar. Her combat style is all about acrobatic flips or techniques such as spins and flips in all directions; spreading Acid with her blows each time for added damage.

In her battle with Aoyama, she has also shown the skills necessary to get around his laser beams in order to get in close and land damaging blows, all while joking around and having the time of her life. This primarily comes from her hobby of… dancing! This gives her great experience in physical attributes, incredible agility in dodging enemy attacks, and an overall great balance of exploiting the cracks in an enemy's armor. She has also learned practical ways to use her acid to her advantage, like mixing it with a liquid based foe, making it difficult to get out and requiring a retreat as a result. Mina is rather adept at recognizing and adapting to her enemies powers, given her using her knowledge from her past team-up with Aoyama to outplay him in their battle, or learning from Toru's Quirk to close her eyes, saving herself from a blinding move used on somebody else.

Arsenal

Jubilee

Anti-Vampire Gear

After getting cured of her vampirism, Jubilee was frequently called back to fight these blood-suckers. While doing so, she’s used plenty of useful weapons, like a nail-ridden bat, knives, and stakes for impaling their hearts.

Mina

Hero Suit

Like her classmates, Mina has received a state-of-the-art costume for her hero journey; tailor-made to help her in battle. Her suit is made of an unnamed yet special acid-proof material that lets her go all-out in her Quirk without trouble of damaging it. Acidman for example covers her entire body outright while melting robots, but both Mina and her suit are untouched. Her shoes also have a nifty feature of bearing holes in them so she can release it from her feet and slide all over the place or attack with them.

Abilities

Jubilee

Fireworks

Jubilee's Mutant power, and a doozy of one at that. Specifically, her powers are a form of innate particle acceleration that lets her generate pyrotechnics. These manifest as explosive blasts of articulate quasi-animate transitory plasmoids: Pieces of raw energy that her body generates and her mind controls to, well, detonate. Her mind having control over her powers let's Jubilee manifest them in a variety of ways, like energy balls and streamers, which is where the name "Fireworks" come from. She can juggle them like trick balls, shape them into mini-star like objects or explosive spheres, and switch their harmlessness to lethal in the blink of an eye. The blasts can also be incredibly small, or incredibly large; like small enough to, in theory, short out the synapses of your brain or give you a cerebral hemorrhage, and large enough to be swirling energy as big as she is or massive beams and blasts. Alternatively, Jubilee can launch waves of energy that can slice through a van, point and launch literal finger-guns, fling ranged energy balls, fire massive energy beams, and more. Of note, she can also reabsorb her Fireworks back into her body with no damage whatsoever, and she herself is immune to their damaging effects. Speaking of, they can also be used in plenty of deadly techniques and methods of usage, like...

Atom Bomb

For those who don't know how Marvel likes to do Mutants, they can be ranging in any power level, from Street to Herald, but eventually, EVENTUALLY, they will get a 5D anime Naruto Jujutsu Kaisen Hunter X Hunter new explanation on their powers that automatically makes them much deadlier. This is Jubilee's; her ability to make herself a living atomic bomb

Essentially, Jubilee's powers have grown over the years, and multiple characters like Emma Frost have told her that her Fireworks have the potential to destroy matter at the molecular or even subatomic level . This has been rebuffed as truth multiple times over the years, with Jubilee herself explaining her powers are like "combusting molecules" (albeit all she knows how to do is a light show), and her powers can operate "atomically small." While not shown much, there are two notable occasions where she has shown off her true potential. The first was when another Mutant, Everett, who could copy/use other Mutant powers, used hers to unleash a blast that blew up matter on the subatomic level, killing dozens of nanotechnology robots and making Banshee's scream seem like "a mere whisper." This explosion was not perfect however, as it left numerous portions of the robots untouched, acting more like a big blast than a bomb that should have atomically annihilated them. The second one however, is the big one.

A little over a year ago, Jubilee went on a trip with the X-Terminators, basically getting drunk and fighting bad guys in a ladies night out, which somehow had them being held captive on The Collector's ship. Once her friends had left, Jubilee unleashed her true power for the first time in her life, and completely destroyed his enormous ship, creating an explosion one could see from Earth. Jubilee herself was unharmed from this, as she is immune to her own powers, and had to be saved from the vacuum of space… because there was no ship. This move was so powerful, it took multiple seconds to charge up, but then it lit up her skeleton like a radioactive 4th Of July, blasting off her clothes and hair, along with everything else it hit.

Enhanced Agility and Dancing

Jubilee is agile beyond her years, and has done some absurd tricks thanks to her high school training, on top of the X-Men's battle prep. She has outran multiple cops for fun, even jumping off a 50 foot drop with some help from a hanging object with no trouble or damage whatsoever. Just to name a few of her other feats, she's kept up with Wolverine's agility when battling soldiers, leaped up the side of a sentinel to blast it in the face, and claimed she could do more handsprings then Black Widow. This somewhat leaks into her fighting style, and she has been refuted as a highly trained gymnast on a few occasions before. She has incorporated acrobatic kicks into her attacks before, and the extra mobility of her blasts make her able to dance around her enemies without a hitch, or get out of a jam should she get backed into a corner.

Resistances

  • Plasma/Limited Heat - Due to being immune to her own powers, Jubilee would likely have a heavy resistance to these traits.

Mina

Quirk: Acid

Mina's Quirk at work, and one of the primary reasons she is one of UA’s best students.  She can secrete a corrosive Acid from her body, which she can manipulate in terms of how corrosive and sticky it is. In scientist terms, Mina can alter the solubility and the viscosity of her Acid at will, which in turn changes the effect. Solubility essentially measures how deadly it is: a higher solubility equals an acid bath, while a lower solubility is non-lethal. On the other hand, Viscosity is a metric of what the Acid's texture is: increasing it will turn the acid slimy and malleable, like a gelatin substance, and decreasing it leaves it liquid like. Mina has precise and deadly control over both, and has shown quick switching and combinations of both factors in battle, making her Quirk incredibly versatile. Fun fact, this Acid is actually responsible for the pigmentation of her skin, and why she is one of the most attractive girls in the series but don’t mind me it is pink.

Mina can release her Acid from pretty much any part of her body, like her fingers, hands, arms, feet, and more if required. She can let her Acid live up to its name and become incredibly corrosive, or make it a sticky goo to slip n' slide all over the place, kind of like Shoto Todoroki with his Ice powers. Ashido’s Acid is deadly enough to melt through most materials like walls and floors near-instantly, and her profile in the Ultra Analysis guidebook outright states she can melt objects “until there is no trace left.” Mina's actual control over her Acid is a wonder in itself. She can spread it via touch to get precisely on objects, make a literal Acid rain like to put out fires, or unleash large amounts of Acid amplified by the force of her physical strikes, and we're just getting started.

By some strange means, Mina seems to be able to control her Acid to a degree while it is still connected to her body, and even somewhat after. For some examples, she has used her Acid in small shields of sorts on each hand via spouts, that somehow froze and did not move, being absorbed back into her right after. Other showcases include making Acid sprays that function like melee weapons to swat away small projectiles, propelling her into the air, or physically holding some in a solid-like manner. Given her excellent versatility, it's no surprise she's developed several Hero moves to beat the bad guys over her school years, like…

Acid Veil

Mina's very first special move. By maximizing her acid's solubility and viscosity, Mina creates a gelatinous acid wall that blocks incoming projectiles and melts them in the process; even objects “harder than concrete” with ease.

Acid Shot

For a more offensive switch-up Mina can fire, well, Acid Shots for a hail of acidic bullets over a widespread area. This ranges from launching multiple globs of acid rapid-fire to shower down on opponents, to using her hands in a nozzle-like fashion for a large hose splash of Acid. That latter attack method melted and destroyed most of Slice's hair, a foe who was beating around a largely amplified Tokoyami for the most part.

Acid Layback

From this technique Mina projects acid from her shoes to dissolve the surface of the ground beneath her and make it easier to spin on the spot. With the enhanced momentum of her super-fast spin, she can throw projectiles with massively increased force. This is also showcased in her combo move with Mineta: Grape-Pinky Combo Mineta Bounce.

Acidman

For one of Ms. Ashido’s deadliest moves, she creates a virtual Acid armor she dubbed Acidman. After getting the idea from her past pal (and totally more but ignore my shipping complex) Ejiro Kirishima, Mina put her skill to the test in creating this. By increasing her acid to maximum viscosity and after spinning to build up momentum, she forms a large acid body shield around herself to both protect from damage, and burn others with her touch

Since it is with Kirishima's move Red Riot: Unbreakable in mind, as well as her 3rd Hero Internship with Yoroi Musha, it is the perfect mix of offense and defense and incredibly versatile. For example, it is highly resistant to heat and fire, like how it could wholly ignore the fire of supervillain Dabi (who has the hottest fire and some of the strongest attacks in the series). Similarly, in its Protective Coating Style with 0.1% Acidity, it doesn't burn, but does wonders for shielding. It acted as a barrier the other students used for catching up to Deku, which is quite impressive when you look at how they did that.

The strategy move was a combined flash propelled by Dark Shadow's power, than Todoroki's flashfire fist, than Bakugo's explosions. The shield still didn't fully break until Iida, hidden within, boosted himself to the point where most of his armor shattered (never happened in the series prior), while catching up to Faux 100% Deku with Black Whip as a slingshot. In layman's terms, her Acid in this way could endure the energy/power of speed similar to Deku's fastest at the time, along with the best of other top-tiers like Tokoyami, Bakugo, and Iida, before breaking/losing its purpose.

Acidman: Alma

The very core of U.A's training and philosophy is to never give up; to always push your limits, to go beyond them, to give it your plus ultra. This almighty acid attack is Mina's, and the peak of her training across the series After receiving training tips and lessons from Bakugo and Kirishima, whose Quirks are similarly tied to their physical body and resistances to their effects, Mina utterly shattered her limits to reach the heights of this move. At her maximum level of acidity, she launches a far larger glob/shot of acid than normal, with enough raw power and pure volume to severely damage Gigantomachia's hand (and really overpower his durability in general given Mt. Lady's follow-up statement in the manga/anime). For reference, Gigantomachia is roughly the same size as Mt. Lady with her Gigantification Quirk, which makes her nearly 70 feet tall (67 Feet and 8 Inches). As such, Mina would be making Acid attacks big enough to encompass an entire building, and these fully show off her true potential. This even resulted in a pseudo-superform that hinted at her full potential; as her horns elongated to those of a demon while atop the head of her angelic might. Her once black eyes appear to change to the MHA norm, as does her skin due to lack of pigmentation.

However, like most powerful anime moves, it does have notable drawbacks. Using this massive amount of her acid, and at its highest power output no less, will severely drain her hydration levels from a long enough use, weakening her as a result. This caused great damage to her in a short time and effectively took her out of the fight for a time, so it's logical that she can also use this sort of power once before being drastically weakened. That was the case when she first used it, but since the ending of the Final War, it's not so clear cut. Mina showed up just like everybody else in the final battle with All For One, where she could still move and use her Quirk on Kirishima’s level without much issues. Similarly, Horikoshi also drew art of an older Mina wielding this move with no trouble whatsoever, and even malleable into an Acid Dragon of sorts

All in all, it is still likely at the least debilitating to her, but it can be assumed Mina has mastered it by series’ end, and wouldn't have nearly as much trouble using it at will.

Enhanced Agility and Dancing

Thanks to her constant exercise through dancing, Mina is extremely agile and acrobatic in combat. Just from dancing, she can break-dance with little effort, and teach amateurs to become decent dancers quickly. As noted, her dancing expertise means she possesses excellent body control: thus, her frequently praised quick reflexes and skill in close quarters combat. Mina can flip around like a teenage Yoda, and as an adult, use her Quirk to leap between buildings alongside her friends with ease.

Enhanced Stamina

Since UA is all about pushing one's limits, it stands to reason all of its students can go to incredible lengths in battle, Mina included. Just from her own examples, she and the entire class fought Pixie Bob's monsters for 8 hours straight, and that was before ludicrous training by the Pussycats; let alone all the other nonsense 1A went through later on. I also spoke a bit on it in Alma's section (See Acidman: Alma) but that move severely wounded Mina's arm and dehydrated her, yet she still got up to help fight AFO in an incredibly short time.

Resistances

  • Acid - Mina being immune to her own Acid for the most part and heavily implied to have mastered even Alma as an adult means trying to fight her with Acid is practically meaningless.

Scaling

Jubilee

Wolverine

Jubilee has, across her years as an X-Man, constantly fought alongside the very best at what he does. He is commonly portrayed as a far more skilled and speedy opponent than she is, but Jubilation has harmed Logan or foes equal to him with her Fireworks, and broken traps his raw strength or bone claws can't escape. As such, she should scale to his raw physicality, and potentially scale to his speed feats (more later).

Marvel Street-Tiers

Due to her scaling to Wolverine, one of Marvel's A-Listers in the street game, she would likely scale to their physical feats as well, and to a percentage of their speed. All of the following are people Logan has fought and held his own with at some point, and this leads to several scaling chains, that in turn lead back to these general characters anyway. Further details will be given later, with the stars shown here for the nitty gritty of the debate.

Captain America has…

Cyclops has…

Deadpool has…

Banshee

This is a rather odd case for sure, but an impressive one nonetheless. Jubilee's full potential in the Atom Bomb move has been stated to make the screams of Banshee seem like a "mere whisper". Now, Banshee seems to be one of those characters who wavers between Herald™ and street tier, like Psylocke, but the pure power output of his screams should be fair to look at.

Mina

1-A Ladies

Among 1A's leading ladies standing up to the League Of Villains, each and every one is a titan in her own right. In Mina's case, she has several comparable or superior examples to all of them in all stat areas, so anything that they can do, so too can she.

Ochako Uraraka has…

Tsuyu Asui has…

Momo Yaoyorozu has…

Kyoka Jiro has…

Toru Hagakure has…

All of them, being given official Hero Training and having gone to the greatest hero school in the world, would obviously exceed untrained civilians like those shown in Vigilantes

Tokoyami

Tokoyami is easily one of the most powerful characters in both 1A and My Hero Academia as a whole, and Mina actually has multiple methods to compare to him given her standing in the class, statements about her overall power, or showings proving both. We will elaborate more later, but for now, just know that she should compare to Tokoyami for the most part.

Gigantomachia

This scaling is pretty straightforward, where Mina's ultimate move, Acidman: Alma, burned his hand to virtual bones. It was stated as capable of burning his body in conjunction with that in a general sense by Mt. Lady, and would clearly have severely damaged him if the goal was to kill him and she had enough acid to do so. She intercepted him to begin with through this, so Mina's almighty acid and slippery speed would compare to Machia.

One For All and All For One

Through Tokoyami and Gigantomachia, along with multiple other sources we will discuss later, Mina should likely compare to the peak of My Hero Academia's story. Obviously they are still stronger and faster overall, but Mina would still generally compare to what they can pull off (see Before the Verdict).

Deku has…

All Might has.

All For One has…

Shigaraki has…

Due to their status at the top of the verse, they should scale or upscale virtually everything else.

Star and Stripe (who Shigaraki fought and defeated) has…

Weaknesses

Jubilee

It’s no surprise that Jubilee has had her fair share of unspeakably horrific days, or exploitable downfalls. Her powers are certainly capable of mass destruction, but her innate tendency to hold back means, even when she is actually aiming to kill other people, she doesn't normally if ever jump to more hazy powers or her ability to become a living nuke. Her powers are also harder to control when she gets angry, and she tends to do that a lot. So if her opponent can get under her skin, she will be prone to losing her edge. Also, surprisingly enough, she has a problem with people who can get in close to her and dodge her fireworks, and she has lost to people like that many times before, such as Sabretooth, Omega Red, or Monet.

Mina

Mina's resume speaks for itself, but she's obviously not perfect. Mina has shown issues with "scary" opponents or people who disrupt her thought process, which can briefly startle her and leave her scrambling for a new plan. She has shown she has somewhat gotten over this in her rematch with Gigantomachia, but the threat is still there. Also, given her aversion to killing, she tends to hold back, and thus have trouble with, human opponents. Her Acid can easily be used to kill after all, and she's shown this in instances where she has no qualms holding back, like against inanimate objects or robots, which she has dealt with in rapid and successful development.

Before The Verdict

Jubilee’s Speed

As most of you know, the majority of Marvel's Street Tiers scale to each other via the consistent battles of several decades and such. Wolverine, Captain America, Daredevil, Deadpool, etc. These scaling chains usually place people in any number of kilotons and scaling to feats of dodging lasers or reacting in nanoseconds. Jubilee likely compares in Power to these feats…but not in Speed, which may come as a surprise. Jubilee has consistently been blitzed and outsped by people comparable to Wolverine, or Logan himself, and when I say consistently, I mean very consistently. Below is a list of all the times she had been outsped, saved, or blitzed by a street tier hero similar to Logan.

So yeah. Pretty consistent. Another factor that supports this is when Jubilee was turned into a vampire a while after she lost her powers. This transformation was established to clearly boost her stats, like her speed. So how does this prove anything? Well, she STILL could not consistently keep up with any of the Wolverine-Tier heroes when they are actually trying. Her Vampire speed stats are as such.

So, yeah. She gets blitzed as her human self, and outsped even as a Vampire, which boosted her speed. To address any counter arguments, below are all the examples of trying to scale Jubilee to Street Tier speed stuff, and why they aren't usable, or any other case of this nature.

Other than these, there are a few examples of her fighting alongside other heroes that could net scaling, such as Psylocke, Wolverine, other X-Men, or other heroes/villians entirely. This logic would work if they were fighting the same guy; one who is a street tier, but practically ALL of the examples for this are against common thugs and monsters, whose only purpose is to be fodder for everybody to take out. The only exceptions are Hobgoblin and fighting Sentinels with Wolverine, but those are largely context specific details that prevent any real scaling to them. The battle with Hobgoblin isn't actually shown, only formatted as a sort of friends rescue type thing. It also involves Heralds™  (War Machine and Storm) and I don't really need to tell you why that has issues. The thing with Sentinels is that they are not exactly up close boxing with Wolverine or whoever; more so overwhelming in Power and combining that with counters to their powers. In her fights with Sentinels, Jubilee usually is subject to a chance opening to really cut loose, which is enough to severely hinder a critical part of their programming or something. Other examples have her blasting out specific parts in their body to make them crash while flying, or running from them with Wolverine, which isn't really reaction Speed: it's him trying to help her get out of there alive.

So, does Jubilee just… not scale to Wolverine? Yes and no. Back when I originally made this, I was more stingy on it, but she does have examples of reacting around his level; they just aren’t consistent. For every example where she gets blitzed by Gambit, there’s a few examples of her keeping up with Wolverine in combat against foes which took note of her speed. For all the times she gets smacked away by somebody like Omega Red, there’s at least some cases where she dodges strikes from an Alt Wolfsbane, who can keep up with somebody like Nightcrawler. While she does have positive showings to be sure, it should still be noted that she consistently gets outsped by Wade/Steve/Logan/Matt tier characters, vampire or no. All other examples or arguments for keeping up with them are against fodder foes, in held back scenarios, or in instances where the plot allows her chances to do so by having, say, Deathstrike not gut her on the first attack. Granted, she should be in the same ballpark to an extent, because of the few examples where she had been able to react at all. However much you want to give her is up to you, but she should not scale 1:1 with Wolverine.

Where does Mina scale in 1A?

Given Mina isn't necessarily emphasized to be as strong as somebody like Deku or Bakugo, it should be necessary to generally explain where Mina stands in the class of 1A as well as the series. First, we will cover the more outright and doable examples of Mina vs 1A ladies, and next we will cover the lads of 1A, who gave much better scaling.

In comparison with the others, Mina is pretty well-rounded. Starting with power, as she possesses a 3/5 and a 3/6 respectively, Mina is (at the point these books released) stronger than Momo and Toru, as strong as Tsuyu and Jiro, and weaker than Uraraka. For speed, Mina is equal to Uraraka and Tsuyu, and faster than Momo, Jiro, or Toru. For technique, Mina equals Tsuyu and Toru, upscales Uraraka and Jiro, and is slightly lower than Momo. Intelligence and other comedy-based factors don’t matter as much, as we’ll get into momentarily. For the 3 prior choices, which all serve to help Mina if acceptable, how do they stack up logistically? Let's start with power.

Now, what “power” actually means in this context is a bit more muddled. For example, Uraraka and Tsuyu fight almost entirely physically, so power would refer to their physical strength. Conversely, Toru doesn't fight physically nearly as much, and her “power” is more so based on versatility. Momo fights both physically and with weapons, and Jiro is practically entirely based on her Quirk in offense. Getting some things clear, it's likely Mina and Uraraka are tied in terms of physical capability, with both arguments for who is stronger potentially being a little bit better based on these guidebooks. Both fight physically just about the same, and have equally impressive statements or showings for strength. Where it gets tricky is that Mina’s physical strength and capabilities have been outright pushed as superb by multiple sources including Horikoshi himself, while Ochako does not have equivalent statements. Even so, the guidebook has her power at a higher ranking.

One could argue the ratings apply to the characters on an overall level, such as versatility, which could make sense given other rankings present, but also be proven wrong along with it. For example, Momo possesses rankings of 2/5 and 2/6 in power, which certainly lines up with her physical strength, but makes no sense if it's referring to her Quirk’s general power. Momo does have plenty of feats showcasing impressive physical strength, such as blocking strikes from both Itsuka Kendo and Fumikage Tokoyami through shields. Kendo’s Quirk makes her superhumanly strong, and Tokoyami is easily one of the strongest characters in 1A. However, both eventually had her get overwhelmed and outmatched. It's still impressive, but she still is obviously not as physically capable as someone like Uraraka or Mina, who specialize in physical combat.

Now, from a powers perspective instead of Power, things rapidly switch. Momo’s Quirk, Creation, is easily one of the most overpowered abilities in 1A; potentially the entire series. It allows her to create virtually anything she wants, like all kinds of weapons or biological agents, and her many creations have proven instrumental in taking down someone as powerful as Gigantomachia. Even in terms of directly measuring the power output of her creations, ropes she created were used to restrain Machia, and her bombs knocked him to the ground. From a broader scale, her power being a mere 2/5 is ludicrous, so it is questionable what it means overall. Regardless, let’s rank Mina in comparison to it all anyway.

Being stronger than Momo would compare her physically to a base Tokoyami/Dark Shadow, due to her blocking strikes from him even if they pushed her back, and upscale her Quirk's showings from Momo’s helping restrain or knock down Gigantomachia (she herself has heavily damaged him, so it is consistent). Being as strong as Tsuyu and Jiro would generally compare her to Uraraka’s strength since Asui scales to her, and being as strong as Jiro likely means Acid and Earphone Jack are comparable Quirks in regards to power output (more on that in a second). Being weaker than Uraraka (which is again debatable) would simply mean Ochako is physically stronger to a degree, but Mina would compare anyway thanks to Tsuyu. So, physically, anything the 1A girls can do, Mina can scale or even upscale from.

Moving on to speed, this one is much easier to decipher. Mina is bluntly shown as having a higher speed score than Momo, Jiro, or Toru, and she ties with both Uraraka and Tsuyu. For the prior 3, this is undeniable given her higher combat proficiency, and it would upscale her from Momo and Toru's reactions, as well as Jiro's overall speed potentially (more on that later). For Uraraka and Tsuyu, both are more emphasized as physical threats than the others, but should still be below Mina, even if they are comparable. Horikoshi outright stated in her bio early on in the series that, and I quote:

“I draw her really plain, but she's actually got the best reflexes among the girls. By which I mean she's a top-class member of Class 1A. I hope I get to show how strong she is sooner or later.”

This is pretty blatant example of Kohei stating Mina is the fastest lady of 1A, and her examples prove it. For example, let's return to Tokoyami for a moment. Fumikage is legitimately one of the most powerful characters in the series as a whole in both strength and speed. It's gotten to the point where the only reason anybody in 1A has beat him is through exploiting his weakness to sunlight, as otherwise he would be pretty much unstoppable. One showing would be, after gathering darkness for a bit, his Dark Shadow grew into a Kaiju that actually gave All For One, who is pretty much the strongest character in My Hero Academia, legitimate fear. Tokoyami was one of the prime characters who gave AFO the most trouble overall, like Armored All Might and Endeavor. Even when he was ultimately stopped by Bakugo and plot armor the size of a continent, he outright stated that Katsuki was inferior to Tokoyami and Endeavor, so Tokoyami's full power is legitimately one of the top 5, maybe top 3 ranked in the series.

Why does this matter? Even in lower levels, Tokoyami's strength is still heavily blatant. He's stood up to Bakugo (also one of the strongest characters in 1A, who similarly compares to others like Deku and Todoroki) multiple times, and only lost because of his ability being exploitable by Bakugo's powers. This includes speed as well, and several more examples prove Tokoyami scales to all of the most impressive feats (strength and speed) from Deku, Bakugo, or Todoroki. In Mina's case, she herself has plenty of arguments to scale to Tokoyami, which we'll talk about more in the next section. Compared to those levels, it is objectively better than Uraraka and Tsuyu on a consistent and narrative basis.

One final note is potentially using these ratings to call Mina stupid or something due to such a low ranking in that field. These rankings are more in line with schooling Intelligence, shown through high rankings of someone like Tsuyu, who isn't necessarily a genius in combat. Technique would be more in line with battle related intelligence, since Mina is given impressive praise in that regard, but noted as far from the best at normal tests. This can be summed up in the following quote from the noted databooks: “She’s unexpected and good at observing her surroundings, and therefore thinking up surprising combinations is a strong point of hers. “ From that standard, in a skill/combat IQ example, Mina would upscale Uraraka's martial arts examples through Gunhead as well as her own intelligence examples in combat, as well as compare to or upscale similar from everyone besides Momo.

Overall: Mina upscales all of the 1A ladies in speed by showings and W.O.G, and scales or upscales all of their power showings… except, perhaps, for one.

Mina vs Jiro

Rather recently in My Hero Academia's vs arguments, Jiro's own feats have gained much popularity thanks to the time where she stood up to All For One. This gains two specific feats of impressive standing, but how would Mina compare?

Starting off with power, several showings should prove Mina is Jiro’s better. Just from the guidebooks she has comparable strength in the Ultra Analysis, while in the actual series, Mina simply has better examples. On average, Mina has destroyed balls harder than concrete that Jiro’s power could not, and at their best, Jiro was able to break All For One’s mask off, alongside Hawks and Endeavor, but this was an older AFO and thus not as strong as his younger self. Mina’s Acidman: Alma was able to seriously wound Gigantomachia, who could fight this younger one alongside Tokoyami and Mt. Lady, even though he was eventually taken down with the others when his old master got mad (for anybody who wants to say this removes scaling, he took out Tokoyami in the same instance, so…). In general, Mina has always had greater feats, especially when compared to the other heroes like Bakugo and Todoroki. She should certainly have greater power, but speed is the main thing that matters.

Against All For One, Jiro fired a soundwave that countered his light attack; moving over 60 times faster than Light to do so. This does place Jiro’s speed pretty high in the MHA chain, so how can Mina scale, if at all? One thing to remember, as we noted earlier, is that Horikoshi outright stated Mina was the fastest of the heroines in 1A, which obviously includes Jiro. This very statement does solidly place Mina in the upper ranks of her class overall, which Kohei did state right after. Even the Ultra Archive says her reflexes are “top-class” in 1A, and Mina overall is written as nobody to take lightly, even when taking the other characters strongest. Heck, Mina has also blocked materials shot out of the ground by Jiro’s own power, so her being at the least comparable is pretty consistent. It should also be noted that the top 4 overall (Deku, Tokoyami, Todoroki, and Bakugo) would all scale, and Mina has several examples of comparing to even their heights.

In short, Mina has been shown and noted for years to be the most impressive 1A heroine, which includes Jiro’s speed given upscaling in that regard and comparing to other characters. Speaking of those characters…

1A Heroes (One For All scaling)

As the primary protagonists are mostly in this category, Mina's greatest power and speed arguments would come from here. In general, this mostly applies to four specific students; Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, Shoto Todoroki, and Fumikage Tokoyami. So, how would Mina compare?

For the best overall look at things, let’s go case by case with the easiest character to prove: Tokoyami. This may seem a bit off given Tokoyami did beat Mina in the Festival, but it’s a bit more complex than that. Even in the original fight, Mina being scared by Dark Shadow’s sudden assault caused her loss, but she still had time to launch shots of Acid at him despite her weakness due to the fear induced. It’s hardly as much of an anti-showing as one could argue. Aside from that, there are other arguments to place Mina generally comparable to him. During the second MHA movie, she destroyed Slice’s hair, and this powerful villain was directly beating Tokoyami while he was amplified by the darkness and wielding strength enhancing gear. That is blatantly a feat much stronger than Tokoyami would ordinarily be capable of, and the similarities don’t stop there.

In terms of speed, not only has she attacked right alongside Tokoyami’s movement speed (if anything she appeared to be a bit quicker than him) but during that fight with Slice she dodged several of her ranged attacks while the former was pissed off. Again, this foe was actively beating Tokoyami moments prior, and Mina was able to seriously damage her as well as dodge several of her attacks before eventually getting tagged. Furthering this, let’s check the Ultra Analysis once again. In it, Tokoyami is a B+ (4/6) in power and an A- (5/6) in speed, while Mina is a C+ (3/6) in Power and a B+ (4/6) in speed. This does generally mean Tokoyami is superior to her, but given her prior examples, it doesn’t mean she can’t compare at all.

What’s more, we do know that Mina is legitimately a serious threat in battle. Multiple sources place her reflexes as near the best or the top of the class and heavily imply she is the most formidable of the UA ladies, and she has several examples of holding her own against the strongest members own feats. She has melted through restraining liquid that Kirishima struggled to escape, casually melted through wood monsters that only the strongest of 1A like Deku could reliable damage, and destroyed balls that Jiro could not. Heck, even Todoroki’s fire didn’t destroy them, and these balls were not hardened when he attacked it. Destroyed balls harder than concrete that her classmate Jiro could not. This leaves several avenues to actually scale Mina’s power to the peaks of the series as it progresses, which is further proved against Gigantomachia through Alma. Machia upscales all Nomu (giving him some of the greatest stats in comparison and only really surpassed by OFA tiers). Just from the Final War, Machia fought All For One with others and could generally compare to him, just like most others who have methods of such.

This isn’t a random feat either, as Armored All Might’s Super Acid dealt severe damage to All For One; forcing him to eject it off of his body due to being unable to stop it. All of these abilities were government made to replicate the powers of his students, and many of the people he pulled from had their abilities somewhat match AFO anyway. Jiro outsped his attacks and broke his mask, Kirishima blocked attacks and shielded others from him, and more; let alone the hodgepodge of characters fighting ShigAFO at the war’s conclusion. So, we have multiple examples to compare Mina to the top of 1A that are repeated in both strength and speed, and showings of her level of power directly and seriously harming people like AFO. All in all? Mina should certainly compare to these feats, though however much is up to you.

Bonus: All Might’s Game feat

As a last note, I thought I would give my thoughts on My Hero Academia: One’s Justice and its impressive All Might feat. It is a simple one: All Might punches away clouds covering Japan, which lands nearly 200 Petatons. Obviously much stronger than current calculations for the series, but should it be used?

Starting with consistency and concerns of outliers, it’s really nothing we haven’t seen before. All Might has always been at or near the top of the verse even while weakened, to the point where the final boss of the series was Shigaraki, who attained power equal to All Might’s prime. His upscaling plenty of lower feats shouldn’t be too surprising, and there have been several times across the series where he or Deku have punched away massive storms in ludicrous showings of power. It should be usable in terms of consistency and the many showings of power from other characters like Star and Stripe. Canon status is the bigger concern, as is it for most media with cases like this. In that vein, the game is directly based on the original series in every regard, including story. It’s effectively just the anime but in game format, and nothing really differs to the point that you can call it non-canon (like if it showed off a universe-destroying villain never shown in the original material). Next, the game clearly had a lot of support and guidelines to be gone over due to being based on the original series. For example, the game credits have Intellectual Property Supervision members from Toho, Weekly Shonen Jump, and Bones

Intellectual Property Supervision (or management) refers to “strategic and systematic handling of intellectual property assets within an organization. Intellectual property includes creations of the mind, such as inventions, literary and artistic works, designs, symbols, names, and images used in commerce. Effective IP management aims to protect these assets, maximize their value, and ensure they contribute to an organization's competitiveness and innovation.” In other words, IP Supervision/Management is to ensure the property represented is not done so incorrectly, and done with a clear direction in mind. From the Shonen Jump side, this includes Kengo Monji (worked on 3 of the 4 MHA movies), and Yoritomi Ryôsuke (worked on 2 of the 4 MHA movies) as planning assistance from Weekly Shonen Jump’s Editorial Department. From Bones, there is Aya Shibata and Rika Uchiyama, who worked on advertising for multiple MHA movies

There is clear influence from multiple people involved in the My Hero Academia series as a whole, and it contradicts literally nothing in the series to be called non-canon. Similar media has been used multiple times on Death Battle when it elaborates on the capabilities of characters while accurately portraying them, such as Star Wars Legends continuity or JoJo’s video games for somebody like Giorno Giovanna. The difference here is that this game is 1:1 with MHA’s story, and simply showcases All Might punching storm clouds away like he has always done in the show. In conclusion, I see no problem with it being used.

My Hero Academia Lasers

This has already been done to death, but I will give my thoughts on these feats regardless. I would recommend reading Toga vs Toko vs Neo and Shigaraki vs Mahito (2025) for a more comprehensive look if you so wish.

Nomu Laser Dodge

This one is pretty solid in my eyes. These lasers were identified as lasers by the Nomu that dodged them (she had an Intelligence Quirk), moved in straight consistent lines, burned objects, and did not explode when shot at a surface. They were also fired through a lens, and given these many similarities while bearing none of the drawbacks, they should be usable as lasers.

All For One Lasers

These ones are usually referred to as light, and distinctly shown to be that when used against Tokoyami. Even though they are sometimes referred to as impure, they are established to be extremely fast either way, and given narrative intention, they should be acceptable.

Vigilantes Lasers

This laser is distinctly referred to as light, and breaks none of the categories that lasers are shown to have, so they are acceptable as lasers.

Aoyama

To be honest, I will simply be looking at the series as a whole in the future to reexamine Aoyama and the controversy his lasers have wrought, but I am not discussing it for now.

Ability Clarification and Explanations

This is mainly for a brief explanation of some of their abilities.

Jubilee

Jubilee’s plasmoids are legitimate plasma, and are referred to as plasmatic (adjective form of plasma) by a robot who absorbed it. Her nuke destroys matter on the subatomic level, but it is not wholly perfect (the first time these abilities were used, they notably didn’t destroy everything in the area). Regarding this nuke, it has been officially noted that Jubilee has feared the upper extents of her powers, and thus not explored them much as a result. She also hasn’t used it much elsewhere even while angered, nor any of her other potential hax really. Such examples include when her son Shogo (who was a dragon at the time, don't question it) was seriously harmed. In that instance, she lit up the attackers with massive explosions, but didn't atomize them, and later, when she was captured, she didn't do anything like that to escape her prison. It’s unlikely she can utilize this atomic destruction in any of her normal attacks as a result of context clues like this.

Mina Ashido

Mina’s powers are Acid, which destroys pretty much anything by donating hydrogen atoms, forcibly causing it to take other particles from the area in order to maintain sound on a molecular level. In short, it donates, and thus causes a vacuum effect by the particles to maintain solid, which burns through pretty much anything. In Mina’s case, she can only use her Acid at higher levels for so long before her body's natural resistance to Acid starts to get weaker, leaving her skin vulnerable to severe burning and corrosion. However, she has worked to mitigate this risk over multiple years of training, both in and out of U.A, so it's likely less of an issue aside from her all out moves. Another factor is her holding back the viscosity of her Acid against her enemies on purpose, due to her, well, being a teenage girl who doesn't want to kill anybody. She has no qualms using it on monsters and robots at its best efficiency, melting through them and destroying their bodies in moments, but against humans she tries to hold back. Since this is a duel to the death, she probably won't be held back by morals.

Verdict

Stats

With these two mighty heroines, there's obviously a lot to go over, even in stats. For their base physical strength, it's clear Mina holds a notable edge. Jubilee surprisingly really doesn't do all that much fighting physically, and only has certified scaling to Wolverine for example with her Fireworks. Still, since she can tank those Fireworks redirected back at her from Emma Frost, and fight clones of herself, Jubilee should somewhat compare to Logan. After the revisions Street Tiers received, all this nets her is 1.6 Kilotons, from Logan soundly outmatching a character who can move mountains.

In Mina's corner, she should certainly compare to her classmate Uraraka, who could survive several attacks from a serious Bakugo. Even early in the series, like during the first movie, Katsuki could destroy several steel cubes even while tired and battle-damaged, which lands 500 Kilotons. This is no outlier either, as Bakugo compares to Todoroki who had similar feats in that very battle, but also a casual glacier feat in the Sports Festival worth over 11 Megatons. Both numbers obviously heavily outmatch anything you could apply to Jubilee; even any of the previously argued Marvel strength feats. Even if you go with just Toga through Uraraka, Mina would still by comparison match Shigaraki's human durability, which equaled 10 Kilotons and still provides a notable advantage.

This continues with their powers taken into play. Jubilee’s Fireworks really only compare to Wolverine once more, while Mina's Acid has taken on characters much more impressive than those measly kilotons and megatons from early MHA. Even just keeping up with Bakugo, Todoroki and Tokoyami as they got much stronger already means her Acid is that much more powerful by default. As such, Mina can easily land a finishing blow in one hit when serious, whether with her Acid or with her base strength. However… she's not the only one with that kind of power

Notably, both have extraordinarily powerful heights due to the nature of their powers, in do-or-die last stands where both are at their best. Looking at Mina’s first, her Acidman: Alma melted right through Gigantomachia’s arm (body by default given Mt. Lady's statement) who could compare to All For One and thus the many feats a OFA/AFO user pulled off to begin with. This includes several megaton and gigaton feats from Deku, but also multiple attacks in the Teratons from the OFA Storm Punch or S&S Intercontinental Punch that the characters would logically upscale from (5.6 and 7.912 if you're curious). Surprisingly, Jubilee actually has the edge for the most part.

Jubilee's destruction of the Collector's ship on the Subatomic level, given logical sizes for the ship and established type of destruction she unleashes, would land a whopping 46.95 Petatons of TNT. That sort of power would easily kill Mina right away, and heavily outmatches whatever standard you wish to apply to Mina… almost. Notably, in a video game about the series recounting its events, All Might punched a villain so hard it cleared massive storm clouds above Japan. This feat would receive nearly 200 Petatons, and surprisingly outmatch Jubilee’s strongest move. This argument does have potential flaws you could argue, such as the game's canon status or if Mina's Acid even scales to All Might at all.

We already covered the latter concern Before the Verdict, so feel free to read there for more information, but the long and short of it is that All Might did this feat while in his weakened state we see him in for most of the series; not his prime. Deku and Shigaraki were as strong as Prime All Might, and this trickles down to other characters who would obviously exceed the weakened All Might simply by the story's internal logic. Several characters could harm and take on All For One in his prime or similar states, which includes Machia. Given the internal scaling of the series, anybody at that level would at least compare to a weakened All Might, like so. Canon status does throw a wrench in it though, since it can be debated on whether the game is usable or not. Feel free to check arguments on that given earlier, but ultimately, it won’t serve to matter much. Even if you don’t take All Might’s game feat into consideration, Jubilee is still at a clear disadvantage overall. Mina’s strength in physicality and Acid ensures that both of their more base tricks will always end in her prevailing due to how much stronger she is, and while Jubilee can oneshot with her Atom Bomb, Mina can do the same with Alma. So, this then becomes a question of speed.

Jubilee’s own speed is nothing to scoff at. She has frequently dodged bullets and lightning, and would somewhat compare to Wolverine. Truth be told, as we noted, it’s downscaling more than anything else. She has frequently gotten blitzed or generally outsped on multiple occasions by people on Wolverine’s level, and while she has displayed impressive reactionary feats in recent years (sparring with Wolverine, dodging attacks from an alt Wolfsbane, etc), that doesn’t change that she is consistently portrayed as slower than he is. Wolverine’s best speed feats baring scaling are his reacting to Cyclops’ Lightspeed Lasers, which fellow genetically-engineered super-soldier Deadpool has also evaded. Logan’s own example clocks in at 1.5 times faster than Light, which is mighty impressive, and Jubilee could potentially scale directly to it.

In Mina’s corner, she can scale to people that evaded bullets and Kaminari’s electricity, just like Jubilee. More impressively, Jubilee has several means and methods to scale to the many laser-timing feats in MHA, or even upscale them. For example, untrained children in Vigilantes have dodged lasers at speeds over 26-85% the speed of light, and Mina would certainly upscale them in no small quantity and her superior training. Going further, a newly awakened High-End Nomu dodged multiple lasers rapid-fire at 73% the speed of light, and heroes without physical enhancements such as Aizawa could keep up with them. Heck, Tsuyu directly dodged an attack from one that would have been superior to the newborn Nomu, and Mina is distinctly noted to possess superior reaction speed to Asui. Toru has also reflected a laser from All For One at over half the speed of light while damaged from earlier (Mina is superior to her) and a Quirkless All Might dodged his own laser at 63% the speed of light

In short, Mina would decently upscale several mid-high relativistic characters (highest being 73% Lightspeed) while Jubilee would only downscale Wolverine's 1.6 × FTL feats. Just that comparison alone would lead to their speeds being even at best, but the degree that they upscale and downscale would logically lead to Mina being faster. Just as an example, Mina intercepted Gigantomachia With Alma, and Machia is superior to all generations of Nomu, such as the one that easily dodged over a dozen of those lasers. In comparison, Jubilee has scores of examples of getting blitzed by people on Logan's level, so their speeds can only result in Mina being faster.

One could argue Jubilee could scale to Cyclops’ nanosecond feats at over 3 times the speed of light, but there's still the issue of the many times she's blitzed by people like that. If one wishes to ignore narrative and consistency, a similar countermeasure would be Mina scaling to Jiro and her feat at 60 times the speed of light. Don't get the relationship between the characters and feats wrong, as this is not an equivalent countermeasure. Mina actually has means, statements, and examples of her being comparable or superior to Jiro, while Jubilee's only method of comparing is through somebody like Wolverine, with characters comparable to him blitzing her 7 times out of 10. So, no matter where you place Mina, she would still be faster than Jubilee, and thus more likely to get her kill shot in first.

Mina takes overall power, although Jubilee has potential to be stronger if you don't use All Might’s game feat, and both can oneshot each other given their durability. For speed, Mina solidly matches and outpaces Jubilee, either in medium or massive quantities, ensuring she will get her one hit needed first.

Arsenal & Abilities

Given these ladies are primarily ability based, let's check the brunt of their powers to see if either can change the tide more in their favor.

For Jubilee, her Fireworks are plenty versatile. As plasmoids, she can shape them into various sorts of attacks, like various area of effect blasts. She can launch slashing blasts, fling ranged energy balls, blind you with light bursts, and enhance her physical strikes. More esoteric and creative usages include shutting off technology, blasting her through the air, generating smoke and fire, or charging objects up with energy through touch to blow them up. For her most busted applications, Jubilee's powers have been theorized to be able to “short out the synapses of your brain” or give you a cerebral hemorrhage. Finally, her atomic bomb move blows up matter down to the subatomic level, and destroyed a ship with a 28 Kilometer wide blast (very impressive AOE).

Next up, Mina's similarly mastered her Acid Quirk. She can control its solubility and viscosity at will, and release it from basically every part of her body (fingers, hands, arms, feet, etc). She can make it corrosive enough to instantly melt walls, floors, or any object really “until there is no trace left.” She can spread this Acid by touch to get precisely on objects or launch it at will in literal Acid Rain attacks, and launch it simply by her physical strikes to combo into others. For mobility, she can slip and slide all over the place, or essentially fly by boosting herself up with Acid. She can even control it while still connected to her body, like for arm shields and acid spray melee weapons. Her actual moves include the Acid Veil shield, Acid Shot projectiles, or the Acid Layback to boost her speed and throw stuff easier. Most impressively, Acidman makes a full body shield that damages people who touch her, blocks fire and heat, and it is perfected in the several meter wide Alma Acid blast.

Now, when looking at them comparatively, Mina definitively has more going for her in every major area. Starting with their more base abilities, both have similar range with their powers through launched attacks. However, Jubilee is clearly much more focused on ranging than Mina is, and is sorely lacking up-close in comparison. For example, Jubilee could punch with her powers amplifying her strength, right? Well, Mina does the same thing with her attacks much more consistently, and in more ranged methods as well by flinging it alongside her blows. Even at range, where both have similarly wide-spread moves of raining down their attacks, only one of them has the tools to avoid that kind of attack.

Mina's various shield methods and greater mobility through sliding ensures she's much more likely to avoid attacks, even with Jubilee's limited propulsion and skating. In fact, Mina's Acid has directly shielded her from flames even as hot as Dabi's, meaning her Acid can directly counter Jubilee's plasmoid attacks (plasma is deadly because of heat). Thanks to that, Acid Veil and Acidman are instrumental in fighting, since Mina can easily block with both without fear of getting harmed. Acidman actually leads into a much bigger advantage; who can land their hax first.

While Jubilee has a few methods of instantly killing Mina (giving her a hemorrhage, shutting off brain synapses, or destroying her with her Atom Bomb powers, there's no denying Mina's are much easier to land in a duel to the finish. As a reminder, while both can one-shot each other at their best through their hax (Atom Bomb vs Acid), Mina doesn't need to be at her best to melt Jubiler through her Acid. Remember, she can control her Acid's lethality whenever she wants, and has frequently shown off fatal levels of Acid when serious. In that sense, any of her attacks are fatal, as opposed to 3 specific techniques, and since she can spread it via touch or launch it through her attacks, Jubilee has no solid method of evading it.

Even aside from specific hax interactions, Mina holds plenty of counters to Jubilee's powers. Her mobility through sliding and Acid propulsion matches and surpasses Jubilee's, her Acid melee weapons can block Jubilee's many projectiles as she's done before, and her shields provide her more protection when it matters most. Even when comparing their greatest showings of power (Atom Bomb vs Alma), Mina still has enough counters to escape it. Obviously Jubilee has a much greater AOE while using it, but at the same time, Mina's own AOE with Alma is to the level that Jubilee can't dodge it either. More importantly, Mina is far less exploitable; before or during her usage of it.

When looking at Jubilee's example of the Atom Bomb, it blatantly took multiple seconds to charge up (as evidenced by her speech and phases of the comic while using it). With Alma, Mina actively released it in a much faster timeframe specifically to quickly stop Gigantomachia from killing Mt. Lady. Actual speed of the attack is debatable, but there's no question that Mina's takes less time to charge. If they both jumped straight to their best moves, Mina would automatically fire hers first (thanks in no small part to her speed advantage) and ensure she can put Jubilee down before it affected herself.

One could argue Mina would put herself vulnerable due to Acidman's drain on her body, but not only is that argument not much of a counter, but it leads into one of Mina's most notable advantages: Stamina. Firstly, it’s debatable if she still suffers damage from it given Horikoshi has implied she mastered it as an adult, but even in the example where it did damage her, Mina still pushed past her injuries and pain for over a minute while fighting before passing out. Even after that, she still went beyond her limits to fight All For One later, and she along with the entire class fought monsters for nearly 8 hours early in the story. She clearly has a much higher pain tolerance and stamina drive than Jubilee does, and she’s more than able to outlast her given that.

One could argue Jubilee would prevail given hax arguments and potentially just destroying matter in her regular attacks, just like Mina can kill her with higher levels without using Alma. However, the latter argument is fairly unlikely. Jubilee explicitly stated upon using it against the Collector that she hasn’t had an area big enough to use it in until now, clearly taking civilian lives into account among other factors. She’s also never used it in anything besides large blasts (the only times her power has been used like this was through Everett in a large blast, and against the Collector in a large blast). As such, along with other factors we will elaborate on in a moment, Jubilee should not be able to use this ability in anything but her Atom Bomb AOE blast, which Mina can counter in multiple ways.

Finally, we have their agility and dexterity, although it doesn’t matter quite as much. Both are similarly agile in combat, with similar flipping, clearing large areas in a few bounds, and kicking examples for instance. Jubilee has actually been trained in this and referred to as a master gymnast, whereas we don’t really know if Mina has a similar example. One thing to note however, is that Mina uses this agility more in close-quarters combat, and combined with her other mobility options, she would be better overall, even if less skilled.

Overall, Mina holds the edge in abilities across multiple areas and factors.

Tertiary Factors

Arriving at their more tertiary matters, this one is more tricky than the others. For experience, both have fought a wide variety of foes across their years in and out of school, so neither is necessarily winning in this area. As for actual years of experience, both started their stories around 15 and have currently blossomed into experienced adults of similar ages; Jubilee being able to drink currently and Mina aged 24 by the end of My Hero Academia. So generally, their experience is about even.

Skill is a little trickier, since both have their own advantages. Jubilee technically has greater raw skill thanks to more martial arts training, and from more experienced teachers like Wolverine. She was already pretty skilled thanks to tricks from Juvy and her own talents, and received even more varied training across her years with the X-Men or Generation X. At the same time, she is rather reliant on her ranged attacks, and usually beaten pretty quick once foes can get past this. Mina has similar praise in combat and talent from people like Nezu, and comparatively mixes both short and long range combat much better. So, it would seem from a pure training standpoint Jubilee is better, but consistency and accomplishments lie in favor of Mina. Of course, there is more to skill than their martial prowess, and other factors should be discussed while we are here.

Both are similar crack shots with their powers and have showcased plenty of precise shots, so they are about even in that category. Both can also fight from range with ease, and this blends with their intelligence for plenty of amazing strategies. Yet again, both characters have plenty of examples of deducing how their opponents powers work and exploiting them at will. Where they separate is that Mina has more examples of doing this sort of thing in one-on-one fights, like against Aoyama or the sludge monster. Don’t get it wrong from their less than stellar academic showings; both are legitimately very intelligent. Even so, Mina simply has better examples of exploiting enemy powers, and faster ones at that. More notably, Jubilee’s style of attack is based on anger inducing in order to force her opponents to slip up, right? Well, the issue is that Mina’s style actively relies on joking around and exploiting her opponents to close the distance when she gets an opening. Worse still, Jubilee has actively admitted her powers are harder to control when she is angry, and since Mina has never shown the kinds of anger issues that Jubilee can take advantage of, as well as made a habit of exploiting strategy before, she would ultimately take the advantage in combat strategy and intelligence.

Finally, we have two more areas to discuss that truly lend Mina the win: ability experience and an ability mentality. Essentially, while Jubilee has a few hax options that could kill Mina, she’s only ever used one of them outright. Shorting out mental synapses is blatantly only a theory, and Jubilation has never shown knowledge she even knows she can do this. Giving people hemorrhages was something she only threatened decades ago because the people angered her on a personal level due to context, and she’s not brought it up since. Her best bet is the Atom Bomb, which she has still only used once in canon, and lacks the mastery to use these abilities anywhere else like her regular attacks.

Conversely, Mina is obviously leagues more experienced in using her powers at lethal levels, and has mastered hers to a much greater degree. While both are normally held back by morals, meaning they only let loose against people they know can take it, this doesn’t change that when you remove that aspect, Mina is always more likely to use her best moves first. We’ve seen this multiple times like when she immediately mentioned how easy a test would be in vs robots as opposed to vs humans, and when fighting forest monsters who were not human, she immediately went for powerful Acid attacks that took them down instantly. More than either case of simply having a better mentality, Mina does clearly have more skill in using her abilities to their highest potential given the creation of Alma and her better moves in the first place. In comparison, Jubilee actively strayed away from her true potential due to fearing what it could bring, and she doesn’t have nearly as impressive mentality nor experience to use her best moves before Jubilee does.

While it is certainly not clear-cut, Mina takes the advantage in tertiary factors.

Conclusion

Jubilee

Advantages

  • Can one-shot Mina at her max power in the Atom Bomb

  • Has a few hax options that could instantly kill Mina

  • Better trained in hand-to-hand combat

  • Greater AOE and range at her best

Equal:

  • Experience

Disadvantages

  • Overall weaker in most areas, which includes than the Atom Bomb if you use Game All Might’s feat

  • Consistently slower

  • Vulnerable to many applications of Mina’s Acid

  • Less versatile, and her powers are countered by much of Mina’s arsenal

  • Less successful in hand to hand even despite her better training

  • Holds less examples of adapting to enemy power

  • Not nearly as experienced in using her max power or hax, or as likely to given both of their histories

Mina

Advantages

  • Far stronger in virtually every area

  • Consistently faster, ensuring she would get her hax off first

  • Wields a more versatile arsenal, which counters the majority of Jubilee’s abilities

  • Her Acid in any stage is fatal, and she has multiple means of striking Jubilee earlier

  • Greater mobility and defenses

  • More successful in hand-to-hand

  • Much more suited (mentally and ability-based) to land her best abilities first given experience and mentality

  • Certified Best Girl™  in the series

Equal:

  • Experience

Disadvantages:

  • Vulnerable to Jubilee’s Atom Bomb, and potentially weaker than it depending on All Might’s feats

  • Potentially at risk of Jubilee’s esoteric hax (even if she never uses them)

  • Less skilled from a training perspective

  • Less impressive AOE overall, and lacks a direct means of escaping Jubilee’s Atom Bomb

  • Doesn’t have much character development, besides seeing her dead teacher.

Closing out, Jubilee just doesn’t have enough in her alley to surpass Mina. She is weaker across the board, and her only solid method of victory has several caveats Ashido can counter. Her powers are more versatile, and the many shields or ranged moves she wields match or surpass all of Jubilee’s tricks, like blocking her heat with Acidman. Both have the ability to kill each other in one hit, but Mina has more experience using these abilities, more chances to use them given her higher speed, and her best moves don’t take nearly as long to fire. Finally, what really gives Mina the edge is that, unlike Jubilee, she legitimately trained to be the best hero she could be in regards to her powers. Jubilee never really went to the depths of her potential, and all of her hax options are not as in character or even developed like Mina’s as a result. Thanks to that factor, Mina will always be more likely and able to land her Acid attacks in a no-holds barred scenario like this, and wields all the tools necessary to ensure she does this without fail. Lay back and don’t try to hide your Jubilation, Mina; the spirit inside you is brighter than even the most beautiful Fireworks.

The winner…is Mina Ashido.

Afterword

Why I like it

Thanks for reading, and like a majority of my Blogs, this does have quite a few reasons I chose it instead of other characters. So, why this one? Let’s start with some connections.

  • Both are high school teenaged heroines (both are older now but still) who went to the world’s greatest superhero academy alongside their friends to become great heroes themselves (Xavier’s School and UA).

  • They were born with a genetic mutation that granted them their superpower in a world where mankind split into the powered and the powerless (Marvel Homo Sapiens/humans vs Homo Superior/Mutants VS MHA Quirkless vs Quirks).

    • This sets up a contrast where Quirks are loved in My Hero Academia and the Quirkless ridiculed, while Mutants are feared in Marvel. It also frequently sets up moral, existential, political, and all other sorts of conflicts or topics based on the similarity between the X-Men and My Hero Academia.

  • Both of their powers, while seeming simple on the outside, have the potential to destroy anything (Fireworks being able to destroy at the subatomic level and Acid being Acid). Even so, their unwillingness to take a life led to their turning it into a tool for good and adding a flashy spin on it, while mostly forgoing their true strength until a climactic moment to save their friends from a gigantic villain (Jubilee used her Atom Bomb against the gigantic Collector to destroy his ship with the X-Terminators, and Mina used Acidman: Alma to save Mt. Lady from Gigantomachia).

  • Despite their destructive potential, they have always wanted to bring a smile to others, which leaks into their humorous personality, constant jokes, and love of dancing. It also led to a sort of personality mask that they would keep up to hide their own fear (Jubilee has frequently acted tough and boisterous in the past to disguise her anger at the world from being an orphan, while Mina has often maintained a happy demeanor to disguise her own fear and emotions while going through dangerous times as a hero).

    • Both would eventually learn to grow up and genuinely be happy without those emotional qualms, mainly due to their friends they found along the way.

In my opinion, this is easily the best you can do for both. The connections are both broad and specific; working to much of the strengths of their characters and worlds. Simplified, it can be delivered as “teenage fun-loving heroines with powers that destroy everything going to superhero schools for Mutants.” Even aside from that general description, it works to their personalities and interests as well, such as why they haven’t used their potential much, or their love of dancing and fun. Their laidback party-hard vibe is virtually the exact same, as is their role in both their universes; to the point that X-Men 97’ Jubilee and Mina are basically interchangeable. This also does wonders for choreography and banter in relation to each other.

One can easily have the fight be more light-hearted than anything else due to their happy attitude, and have it be all sorts of things in tune with each other due to their varied skill sets. For example, both are master rangers, and can skate/slide all over the playing field while lobbing attacks at each other. They could frequently be joking and having the time of their lives with their acrobatics and usages of their powers, which should very well lead into a dance-off at some point in combination with their powers. Speaking of those powers, they lend heavily to the potential 80’s/90’s aesthetic due to Jubilee coming from it and X-Men: The Animated Series, while Mina loves older media and dancing; thus making it easy to place her into this sort of environment.

All of the flashy powers they wield and the flowing dance moves they move would look gorgeous in a 3D environment, and tonally they are really the perfect match for each other. No matter what a match with Jubilee or Mina would be, it has to be one where they can show off their attitude in combat alongside what makes them special. Them getting to joke and dance, along with all sorts of unique flips with their powers, is what makes them such interesting characters to write in combat, and when you pit their differing abilities against each other, it creates a goldmine of comparison while also giving an equally interesting contrast. Forcing them both to adapt to each others powers and put their smarts to the test is the best way to show how skilled they are as characters, and even from a fight perspective, both suit each other perfectly. They can fight in hand-to-hand with their powers, battle at range, skate/slide everywhere, launch themselves around with their powers to scale buildings, and even end things on a similar note.

Their true potential is shown in their ultimate do-or-die move, ensuring things will end in a “Plus Ultra” moment similar to something like All Might vs Might Guy that can use plenty of that stylistic choices I mentioned earlier. Similarly, the music potential for this is off the charts: Just imagine X-Men music like their original theme song or that of Evolution mixed with My Hero Academia music like “You Say Run.” All of this personality and banter potential, fight dynamic and character interaction opportunities, the perfect tonal clash and growth to the final clash, and more? All of it just serves to prove that this match is genuinely perfect for both, and I hope this blog has served to help you understand why I think that. Thank you for reading!
