“The poor dog, in life the firmest friend. The first to welcome, foremost to defend.” - Lord Byron
Krypto the Superdog, Metropolis's mega-powerful mighty pup
Underdog, the courageous canine crime fighter of Capitol City
Look, up in the sky! It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a…frog? Not bird, not plane, or even frog, it's the premier superdogs of cartoon fame. Few heroes have matched the fame and reach of the very first, Superman. So what do you get when you take his classic story, and place a lovable doggo in his shoes? Two of the goodest of boy’s in cartoon history, so now, it's time for a Dog Battle!
Round 1: FIGHT!!!
Before We Start…
This blog will consist of their standard shows and supporting side-media. This means Underdog gets the original Underdog cartoon and its spin-off comics as well the Underdog movie (even though it doesn't really add much), while Krypto gets his show and its own supporting comics or otherwise. Also, one important note. This blog released alongside my buddy Toxin's own Wordgirl vs Underdog (which you should totally read by the way) which has very similar writing/text and etc. This is because (long story) I had the Underdog research for this for a while and I jumped on board his blog to help him out. Neither of us copied or plagiarized anything of the sort because it's the same research. Don't give him any trouble, please.
Enough of that though, let's get into it!
Background
Krypto
Krypto's story starts with the average Kryptonian tragedy. The planet was dying, so the brilliant scientist Jor-El began building spacecraft, in order to ensure his son Kal-El survived. As a test run, he built a smaller craft for Kal's beloved puppy, a dog named Krypto. This was intended to fly routinely and then come back, but it was knocked off course, and Krypto was put to sleep (n-not that kind) for well over a decade. Eventually, he arrived on Earth as a near adult, and quickly looked for a new owner on this strange new world. As luck would have it, Krypto would find and befriend Kevin; a lonely boy with not much in the way of friends. The two would bond and become like brothers, thanks in no small part to Krypto being able to converse with him through Krypton technology. Krypto was given a new home through Kevin's family, and all seemed great. However, Krypto had a great power bestowed on to him as a Kryptonian in radius of Earth's Yellow Sun, so he decided to live up to the responsibility it brought with it to become a superhero – no, a Superdog.
Throughout his adventures, Krypto saved Metropolis time and time again, found new partners in his neighbor Streaky and Batman's pet partner Ace the Bathound, and even joined the Galactic superhero team, the Dog Stars. He would thus dedicate his life to saving people whenever he could, whether it be the tiniest bug on a tree, to aliens of outer space. From battling the literal cat burglar Isis (Catwoman’s cat) to Joker's Hyenas Bud & Lou, to even the dogs of General Zod, Krypto always fought for good and to help anybody he could. This lovable good-hearted nature is what makes Krypto such an amazing hero, and its why, whenever the people of Metropolis see him flying through the sky, they cheer for Krypto; Krypto the Superdog!
Underdog
Capitol City. Home to many hard-working citizens, like ace reporter Sweet Polly Purebred. It is also home to hundreds, maybe thousands of money-grubbing criminals whose hearts are filled with greed. But, hope is not lost, for when evildoers rob and steal from those in need, a hero comes to right their wrongs with blinding speed; Underdog. This champion of champions has little to tell in way of story, and not much is known about him at all. His secret identity is Shoeshine Boy, a young man both humble and lovable who shines shoes. When trouble calls however, he runs to the nearest phone booth, donning the cape and tights to stop evil in its tracks.
While unconfirmed, there are rumors he was once an ordinary dog working with the police department, until he was experimented on by the Mad Scientist Dr. Simon Bar Sinister. Exposed to a mix of cross-spliced genetics through a destroyed shelf of serum, Shoeshine gained enhanced abilities on a scale heretofore unknown to mankind. With guidance from his new teenage owner Jack, Shoeshine became the ultimate Underdog, and protector of his city against whatever Simon threw at him. His heroic adventures led him to stop natural disasters, take on alien armadas by himself, battle mystical witches or gigantic monsters, and even take on Overcat, one of the universe's deadliest warriors. Throughout his fight against evil, Underdog often underwent great personal sacrifice, and has put himself in harm's way time and time again. This has helped the world to see the kind soul that he is, Polly to fall head over heels for him, and for Shoeshine himself to prove one simple fact. With the speed of lightning and a roar of thunder, he will always fight those who rob and plunder, because he is Underdog; Underdog!
Experience & Skill
Krypto
As one of the premier defenders of Metropolis, Krypto has gone up against pretty much any threat you can think of, and then some. He's journeyed inside storybooks to battle witches (1:15 - 3:04), giants, and outmatched the Dog Star Patrol (1:45 - 3:16) on their first meeting. Not only was this early on in his adventures, but the Dog Stars are alien defenders with experience tracking criminals across the cosmos. Krypto has rapidly disassembled a cage with his teeth (0:44 - 0:48), teamed up with Ace the Bathound against Joker's hyenas and focused his heat vision to burn out an engine, and even rescued him without his powers (3:16 - 4:58). He has also used his super-speed to form a mini cyclone for dispelling magic tornadoes (1:51 - 2:19) rapidly shredded multiple cages for people (1:30 - 1:46), and this same tactic has been used by others to shred nets thrown at them or suck people like a whirlpool. Across these adventures he's also frequently faced other super-powered animals, like the hounds of General Zod alongside Streaky.
Underdog
Across his adventures, Underdog has come against all variety of threats, both of this planet and of outer space. From mad scientists with every machine imaginable, to gigantic robots, to alien soldiers and gladiators, there's no kind of would-be conqueror he has not vanquished (1:02 - 1:38). He's also been through several examples of quick thinking and on-the-spot brilliance, like, while shrunken, using a piece of straw and some seeds for a machine gun like attack (4:09 - 4:42). He's an adept sword fighter, as showcased in duels with Riffe Raffe (3:34 - 4:15) and Battyman (18:12 - 19:00), and is so skilled as a fighter he defeated Overcat, one of the strongest warriors in the universe (12:36 - 15:49), and even entire alien armadas sent to destroy him on several occasions (1:03 - 2:31). This includes creating techniques like his sledgehammer fist to tear through monsters (7:19 - 8:10) stronger than him (14:09 - 14:21) and rolling up into a spinning ball to strike down rows of ships like bowling pins (1:31 - 1:42).
Arsenal
Krypto
Collar
Every dog needs a collar, and Krypto's is as Super as he is. It has an intergalactic communicator that lets him talk with all manner of alien creatures in the universe (0:11 - 0:29), in that they can understand him if they wear it (0:53 - 1:47). Still, he can talk to most animals without it if it's somehow removed. The collar is also capable of reflecting energy blasts…somehow (2:28 - 2:43).
Space Suits
Despite all Krypto's amazing power, he can't breathe in space. So, he has used a few super spacesuits to help him in that area. The first is a simple helmet (0:09 - 0:39) to help (0:52 - 1:28) him breathe (3:41 - 4:05) in space, as he can endure the vacuum just fine while the second he got from the Dog Stars is entirely different. It is practically a suit of armor that triples his strength, allows him to fly in space, and is one of his most prized possessions (18:35 - 17:41).
Underdog
Underdog Super Energy Pill
In the compartment of his Ring Underdog fills his Super Pill. In actual terms, this Energy Vitamin Pill/Super Energy Pill, hidden in his Ring, is the perfect tool to restore Underdog's powers when the situation is dire. As yet another cartoon macguffin, ala Popeye's spinach, Underdog can take this to either recharge his stamina to his physical best or gain a large power boost. While he has claimed not taking this passively weakens him until he's like everybody else (16:59 - 17:30), we haven't seen much evidence to prove this beyond the Episode. This gives him access to “all possible strength” (14:02 - 15:14) and essentially brings out his true potential to its very peak (1:59 - 2:22); allowing him to easily overcome people who were curbstomping him earlier, such as Fearo the Ferocious (1:11 - 4:08) or the Flying Sorcerers (6:38 - 8:08/14:16 - 16:06). Not only does this refill his strength, but heal his injuries as well (9:01 - 9:28). As for the amount he has, while he usually only needs one, Underdog has once used these pills in major water reservoirs to give everybody his powers, in at least 5 on-screen (15:34 - 17:38). Finally, this has also allowed him to break out of more hax-based options, like a voodoo spell (13:56 - 16:05) or being turned into a valentine portrait by Simon (13:05 - 14:25).
Abilities
Krypto
Kryptonian Physique
As a dog from Krypton, Krypto gains access to incredible strength and speed, issue 2), various kinds of vision, and enhanced versions of things normal dogs have, like their incredible senses. This also includes extra stamina, and super breath that can blast back foes, blow away fire breathing, or power a time machine (3:15 - 4:06). In Streaky's case, it also gives you a minor case of toonforce; enough to be flattened by a collapsing building and walk it off just fine (4:03 - 4:20), which other non-powered characters have also done (0:56 - 1:04).
Flight
A staple of Superman, and Krypto's main method of getting around. He can soar through the air with little issue, fly in the vacuum of space, and at relativistic to FTL speeds with no issue.
Enhanced/Super-Powered Senses
As a super-powered version of Earth's many canines, Krypto has enhanced versions of all their natural talents, like senses.
Smell - With Krypto's smell, he can detect oncoming people, like Superman, who he hadn't met in decades chronology-wise (2:47 - 4:23). He has accidentally smelled food from completely different towns (0:21 - 0:34), can track others with it (2:45 - 2:52), or simply find others in the area when combined with his other powers (0:48 - 1:07). Krypto's smell is precise enough to detect foreign lab chemicals in dog treats (3:02 - 3:13), and Streaky, who has his powers but weaker, smelt popcorn from another planet the two flew by (0:25 - 0:38).
Hearing - Just as absurd as his smell is Krypto's hearing, if not more so. He has frequently heard alarms (0:34 - 0:49) or cries (3:26 - 3:52) going off (2:18 - 2:35) around Metropolis (0:50 - 1:12), even from several miles away. He can hear objects coming at him through the whistle of the air (0:16 - 0:33), and combined with his other powers, his hearing lets him be sure nobody else is nearby (0:48 - 1:07).
Vision - Like Superman, Krypto has multiple different kinds of vision from which he can see and interact with the world. Those being…
Heat Vision - Ah, the Kryptonite staple. With these laser eyes, Krypto can weld (1:28 - 1:38) objects (0:22 - 0:25) together (1:08 - 1:17), heat up objects like a pool into a sauna (2:57 - 3:09), and burn out engines of machinery (2:47 - 3:13). He can push back water from a dam (2:56 - 3:10), heat up and alter metal in place of an actual laser tool (2:37 - 2:47), destroy a tech turbine (3:43 - 3:54), and burn off his fur on somebody itself despite its Invulnerability (4:31 - 4:48).
X-Ray/Infrared Vision - Another way to use his vision is to see through…basically anything honestly. With his X-Ray Vision, Krypto can scan the surrounding areas for people or villains (0;07 - 0:18), see through most walls (2:46 - 2:54), spaceships (2:36 - 2:40), and scan (1:54 - 2:06) buildings (2:09 - 2:15), along with large portions of Metropolis (4:49 - 4:59). This also allows him to see traditionally invisible objects, like a hidden door (0:56 - 1:08) or a spaceship (3:17 - 3:45).
Telescopic Vision - Having enhanced vision in general naturally means Krypto can see farther than others as well. He can see out of control trucks from miles away (2:21 - 2:34), look at satellites from ground level (2:43 - 2:55), glimpse small traces of kryptonite in objects (1:12 - 1:17), and Streaky has even seen a ship flying to an interstellar planet to the point where he could follow it.
Resistances
Extreme Heat - A Kryptonian Flea ignored Krypto's own Heat Vision, meaning Krypto is likely resistant to it as well (2:33 - 2:44).
Aging (debatable) - Mechanikat used a de-aging ray on him and the Dog Stars to turn them into puppies, and stated it needed Kryptonite to affect Krypto (1:48 - 2:28). However, he has been aged into an older dog, so he should still be somewhat susceptible (2:10 - 3:23).
Immobilization - Mechanikat used an immobilizing ray on the entire planet, but specifically spliced Kryptonite into it so that it would affect even Krypto, as otherwise it would not work (2:17 - 2:55).
Underdog
Experiment Physiology
…not really sure what else to call this honestly. We aren't given details on Underdog’s origin or powers in the original cartoon, but the movie (which is essentially an origin story) has him enter as a regular dog that got physically enhanced by a dose of dozens of chemicals from Bar Sinister’s experiments. This gives him all around boosted physicals, such as the speed of a cheetah, the flight of an eagle, and the strength of an elephant, just to name a few. He can soar through the air any which way he pleases, possesses enhanced canine senses, and break out of a Snow Gun via his radiant heat (12:03 - 15:15).
Flight
As a Superman copycat…sorry, copyDOG, Underdog can fly anywhere at will. While he isn't always the most careful of his surroundings while doing this, his flight has enabled him to reach the depths of space, battle and dogfight spaceship armadas solo, and rapidly fly anywhere on the planet he is needed.
Enhanced Senses
Being a super-powered dog, Underdog has the enhanced senses of one, but upgraded to a massive degree thanks to Bar Sinister's experiments. These include…
Enhanced Hearing/Ultrasonic/Atomic Ears - Just like another super-powered pup, Underdog can always hear anybody calling for help, no matter where they are. He can distinguish between recordings of a voice and the real deal after a while of being tricked (5:07 - 7:18/8:03 - 10:39), hear telegraph messages addressed to him through a radio tower (5:31 - 6:10), and even something as small as a lock being broken across a city. The lengths his hearing goes when it comes to Polly is just insane honestly. He's heard her cries from miles away to the exact destination (0:33 - 1:08) on several occasions (13:04 - 14:56), or when in Capitol City while she was in the middle of the South Atlantic (6:22 - 7:27), or from halfway around (4:52 - 5:30) the world (6:43 - 7:30). This isn't even close to his best, because he can hear her cries from the vacuum of space, on planets trillions of miles away (7:34 - 8:11), or even a million light-years away (13:11 - 13:50).
Eyes
X-Ray Vision - For eye based abilities, Underdog has X-Ray eyes to see through bricks…but his are a bit different from your usual x-ray tricks. He can set objects on fire through this (3:27 - 3:42), and this heat based method is pretty consistent. He can passively melt metal objects that touch his eyes (6:30 - 6:45), melt multiple large candles (15:04 - 15:27), melt the Granite Gun (15:50 - 16:09), and set a poster/room on fire by staring at a wall with it (9:50 - 10:09). Of course, he has used this like regular X-Ray Vision, like to scan a machine in conjunction with his brain to stop it (15:26 - 15:41), or to see objects inside the body of another.
Atomizing Eyes - As yet another piece of evidence the writers didn't know what these names meant, Underdog has used this like X-Ray Vision to scan areas while underground (10:54 - 11:08)...but also to make rocks fall on a minion (14:27 - 14:51).
Cosmic Ray Vision - Invisible vision that he used to melt the chain of some handcuffs with nobody noticing (3:28 - 4:03)
Atomic Breath
As his theme song says, Underdog has a “Roar Of Thunder” with which he can do things like blow out a fire..and half the building away with it (3:51 - 4:14). He's blown away erupting volcanos (1:16 - 1:47), tornadoes (11:28 - 12:03), several million feathers off the face of the earth and into space in seconds (16:53 - 17:01), outmatched a vacuum guns suction with his own inhale (16:02 - 16:53), and blasted back the dreaded Overcat (14:14 - 14:24). Underdog has also used his breath in other methods, like a Hi-Fi Voice for whistling loud enough to break a specific type of glass and all others for “miles around” the entire city (2:27 - 3:32), or to blast heat capable of defrosting victims of Simon’s snow gun (16:43 - 17:00), or melt ice cream Riffe Raffe stole (1:33 - 1:47).
Super-Brain
Despite his clumsiness, Underdog has showcased a hyper-intelligent brain, with which he can calculate various extremities and formulate plans near-instantly. This has helped him find Simon's secret lair, counter his camera device with a mirror, and show him how to reverse its effects on those it turned into pictures (2:22 - 4:33) His super-brain has found solutions to avoid stealing water from other lands (8:49 - 10:23), fixed massive structural undertakings like the Mayflower and multiple buildings out of trees and several Native Americans wigwams/pilgrims fences, all of which he did in seconds by the way (15:33 - 16:11). After a bit of thinking, Underdog determined that ghost like creatures were alien clouds from another planet (6:15 - 7:32) and he has used it in correlation with x-ray vision to scan a machine and find out how to stop it (15:29 - 15:41). Other examples include figuring out how to stop the Electric Eel's powers, trapping him in glass (14:43 - 16:41), and making a high-tech wheelchair with multiple functions in a short timeframe as an old man in his laboratory.
Non-Physical Interaction/Energy Manipulation
In his adventures, Underdog has frequently battled foes that normal people can not interact with. He has physically grabbed and bent a bolt of lightning (10:34 - 11:10), stretched and compressed a cyclone in a typhoon (5:17 - 5:42) and interacted with the literal Cloudmen once he consumed his Pill when previously he could not (15:04 - 16:54). He has also punched and harmed a fire monster with gloves albeit, and shook hands with a ghost.
Invisibility
On one occasion when he had to attack Simon without being seen, Underdog’s solution was to spin so fast he became invisible to the naked eye (14:35 - 16:58). He then flew to the moon unseen, and only became visible when he spun himself back to normal.
Cosmic Awareness
Once, when up against an obvious parody to a certain Surfer, Underdog was granted Cosmic Awareness by the Cosmic Benny Factor; a planetoid being who gifted Cosmic Knowledge on multiple things he hadn't known before, including how to challenge said alien to a duel in his Native Tongue.
Toonforce
As a cartoon superhero during the 60’s, Underdog has shown his fair dose of toon-tastic logic and feats. Anything falling under this branch of defying the rules of nature will be thus listed.
4th Wall Breaking
Throughout his series, Underdog has spoken to his viewers at (3:56 - 4:10) several (1:37 - 1:56) points (5:53 - 6:09), and other characters like Riffe Raffe have noticed the narrator speaking his name (1:56 - 2:04). In his comics, Underdog has commented on his being in a one page story and about the editor of it, directly spoke to the readers and heard what the narrator was saying, or shown aware of pages of the comic.
Regeneration
Underdog once popped himself back to normal after being flattened into paper (7:01 - 7:25) by the Flying Sorcerers.
Hammerspace
Underdog wouldn’t be a true cartoon hero if he couldn’t pull things out of nowhere to aid in his journey. This includes…
Rope - Underdog has reached into his cape and grabbed some (6:47 - 6:58), and had some again later to tie up a volcano (1:27 - 1:48).
Pipe - With this, Underdog focused his breath through it to redirect the power of a volcano (1:27 - 1:48).
Pencil and Paper (5:59 - 6:08).
Chewing Gum - With one stick of gum, Underdog blew it out of a pipe and blocked dozens of leaking pipes (10:52 - 11:18).
Asbestos Gloves - Used these to punch a fire monster without getting hurt.
Gas Mask & Super Absorbent Bib - When up against a curiously overpowered pieman, Underdog wielded a gas mask as well as a super absorbent bib to resist his pies.
Giant Magnet - Had it made for him to capture a large robot and take it to the north pole.
Self-Aging
So, once, Underdog was de-aged into a puppy, which hindered his superhero powers. What did he do to escape this? Well, obviously, he turned to thinking about current day problems to age himself back to normal through worrying, like taxes, war, inflation, unemployment, and fleas. No joke. This really happened.
Transmutation
Ah, the classic staple of crazy toon powers. In Underdog’s case, he has crushed coal into perfectly cut diamonds (10:23 - 12:01), and punched a giant bird so hard it turned into a cooked turkey (14:48 - 14:59).
Resistances
Ice/Cold - Underdog has resisted Simon's Snow Gun (which freezes people solid into snowmen) more than others, requiring multiple shots to be fully turned into a Snowman (11:45 - 12:54). Later on, he used his radiant heat to break out, even after getting grilled wouldn't break it, (12:03 - 15:15), and his breath also helped people break out of it (16:43 - 17:00).
Vaccuum of Space - Underdog has flown in Space plenty of times just fine (8:41 - 10:31), and is able to breathe or talk as if he was on Earth without need of a spacesuit (14:53 - 17:07). He has done (5:58 - 10:09) this at (6:22 - 8:31/14:55 - 16:06) multiple times (8:07 - 8:53) in his history, with Polly Purebred no less, so it's not an inconsistent trait or anything like that.
Fire/Heat - Underdog has shrugged off the fire of the 2-headed dragon of Zot (15:14 - 15:26).
Hypnosis/Mind Control - While Underdog was initially hypnotized by a machine Simon built, his great brain and love for Polly helped him resist Simon's technology until the machine controlling him broke (12:19 - 13:36), On other occasions, he has also resisted Simon's magic mind control spell and musical hypnosis thanks to his great brain.
Transmutation - Through his amazing power of concentration, Underdog managed to briefly, and later completely, break the spell of the Flying Sorcerers, which turned him into a ball, though the true break-out he attributed to Sweet Polly screaming (7:51 - 13:49). Other examples include his resisting the Granite Gun (turns people to stone) and punching multiple people out of it on Earth…somehow (15:24 - 17:41), as well as remaining sentient while turned into a valentine and breaking out of this like glass once he consumed his Energy Pill (13:05 - 14:25). The comic adaptation of this even has him break out without the Pill.
Body Control/Magic - With all his willpower, Underdog managed to slightly break out of a Witch Doctor's Voodoo Doll spell enough to use his Underdog Pill, which allowed him to fully beat the spell and destroy the doll remotely just as a result (13:56 - 16:05).
Electricity - Ignored Electric Eel's powers with his Pill amped strength (14:52 - 15:29).

While weakened, flew with Polly to a planet millions of miles away in a short timeframe (8:01 - 11:27)
Bounced back Simon's camera flash with a mirror (3:00 - 3:23)
This was stated to be rays by both Simon and the story, came from a camera, and Underdog bounced it back with a mirror (obviously).
Stated (5:38 - 5:56) to (14:45 - 15:30) fly (16:05 - 16:27) at (3:24 - 3:35) the Speed of Light on multiple occasions
Flew to a planet roughly 32 million miles away (2:32 - 3:32), and punched a skyscraper sized alien back to that same planet (17:27 - 17:37) in seconds (2.863 × FTL and 17.1782 × FTL respectively)
Flew to the planet Felina (Episode 86/Underdog vs Overcat Pt 2) in minutes (8.946 Thousand - 89.469 Thousand × FTL)
Flew to Zot (12:05 - 12:26) in an incredibly short time (372.274 Thousand - 210.433 Billion × FTL, see Before the Verdict)
Later, he flew back to Earth in an even shorter timeframe (16:53 - 17:02)
Traveled to the Flying Sorcerers’ planet (13:50 - 14:05) in a rapid timeframe (2.104 Trillion × FTL)
Should be stronger than Beowulf, who pulled a Slingshot time machine that he invented which launched Underdog and Polly fast enough to “fly right into the future” (Debatably Immeasurable)
Both Cad and Simon were hit by the momentum of this, albeit they were knocked out
Durability
No-sold getting a truck rammed into him so hard it's front half shattered, along with pistol shots, machine gun rounds, and a Nitro explosion; even yawning at it (15:51 - 16:14)
Frequently (0:22) ignored (0:17 - 0:29) bullets (0:25 - 0:36)
Ignored getting shot at by tank shells (14:11 -14:24)
Zot Cannon shots bounced off his head (1:17 - 1:21)
Shrugged off the fire of the 2-headed dragon of Zot (14:25 - 14:38) (why do they laugh so funny?)
Tanked being kicked back to Earth from the Flying Sorcerers planet a million of light-years away (7:51 - 9:41, see Scaling)
Scaling
Krypto
Streaky
As Streaky's part-time partner, Krypto should more than compare to his feline friend. Not only has Streaky been stated inferior in strength and ability to Krypto (0:00 - 0:21), but he was also defeated by Krypto when hypnotized. So, the scaling and even upscaling is rather blatant, and Streaky has done the following.
Held up a collapsing roof, but it got harder as it got more dangerous/cracked (3:17 - 4:00)
He sung loud enough to compromise the hull integrity of a ship (0:56 - 1:53)
Streaky dodged a potential laser (straight line, tech based, burned ground) from Mechanikat (1:37 - 1:46)
Streaky chased a ship to Catopia (38.29 Thousand - 927.484 Million at best × FTL)
Streaky tanked getting shocked by an overloaded bug zapper Ignatius was using (1:32 - 2:21)
This was stated by Krypto to be draining the power of the entire city
Dog Star Patrol
Krypto's galactic buddies and superhero allies are plenty powerful, and he should comfortably upscale them. Not only has he frequently fought alongside them, but his first meeting with the Patrol involved defeating most of their members, while he himself was fairly new to being a Superhero.
Hot Dog created a large blast of heat/fire in space that blasted away several catbots (3:50 - 3:58)
The Dog Star Patrol frequently use their ship to travel interstellar distances with no issue. Examples include…
The Patrol’s members being “from this galaxy and beyond” (3:57 - 4:29)
Krypto thought the Dog Stars should be patrolling the universe (2:55 - 3:02)
When looking over the normal patrol range with the Dog Stars, he said it looked like a slow crime day in the galaxy (1:31 - 1:35)
The Dog Stars chasing a peanut thief from planet to planet across the galaxy (-8:25 - -8:17) over an unknown time period (5.219 Million × FTL)
The Dog Stars ship is also likely superior or at the least comparable to other spaceships in the show.
Krypto’s own flew him from Krypton to Earth in an undisclosed amount of years (1:13 - 4:21)
The show/comics said he went to a new solar system, Krypto's ship computer was designed to read tech across the galaxy (-9:27 - -9:14), Krypto has said he's from another galaxy (-21:36 - -21:13), and the DVD for the complete series says this trip was “traveling across galaxies” (4,763.018 × FTL)
A random ship flew back to its planet, with dialogue saying it would cross sections of the Milky Way (2:47 - 2:52) (154.463 Million × FTL)
Krypto couldn't catch up to it once it started flying MFTL because it was “too fast” (2:40 - 2:45/0:13 - 0:18)
Two aliens, Pleak and Plook, piloted to Earth from the “Galactic Neighborhood” in about a minute (0:22 - 1:21)
Later, the two mentioned monitoring the solar system like Pluto and Uranus, so it can be assumed they meant the edge of our solar system (891.666 Thousand × FTL)
A Santa Claus stand-in pilots his ship all across the galaxy in a night to give presents to dogs. He was shown in “another part of the galaxy” with Mechanilat taking over his ship and using it to fly to other parts of space like the alsciaukat star of the lynx constellation. The dog stars also followed him in a short time from their unspecified location (666.371 Thousand - 3.3319 Million × FTL)
Ignatius
While the man of steel duels the bald billionaire, his pet does the same to Luthor's pet Iguana. Like normal Superman, Krypto usually heavily outmatches the Lexcorp technology Ignatius has used, which is the main focus of his scaling here.
Reflected light from some satellites on to Metropolis to heat it back to like Summer during the winter in seconds (1:33 - 4:55) to the point of causing avalanches/flooding in Metropolis mountains
Krypto never really competes in power to this device so he can't really scale
Ignatius once piloted a spaceship to the sun, and launched missiles at it that caused solar flares which created a massive heat wave on Earth (11.95 Gigatons - 1.19 Petatons of TNT per missile)
This was also stated capable of turning Earth into a desert if he wasn't stopped.
Mechanikat
Mechanikat is the ultimate antithesis to Krypto's nature, and his greatest villains across the course of the show. Throughout, Mechanikat's schemes have been foiled by the mighty mutt, and his gear needs kryptonite to work on Krypto to begin with.
Mechanikat ripped a metal door off its hinges and did similar to a metal mini Safe door (0:41 - 0:59)
One of Mechanikat's larger ships blew up part of a mountain by lifting off (2:49 - 2:58)
Mechanikat's ship is strong enough to escape the sun's gravity (-2:56 - -2:47)
Mechanikat once had a scheme to build up enough static electricity through rubbing cats to “shock the entire world” (1:25 - 3:52) and he tanked part of that device going off (116.3 Exatons of TNT)
(Debatable) Streaky, who was telling the story, did say he stretched a few details here and there, so it's possible he made this up.
Mechanikat had a giant space station to be seen from the Earth over the sun that turned the sunlight red (-10:47 - -9:20)
Mechanikat is also superior to and has greater tech than his henchman, Snooky Wookums, who has done the following.
Snooky stole milk products across the milky way, and was tracked across the universe by the Dog Stars (0:00 - 0:24)
His pod rapidly went out of orbit and “well out of the solar system” (3:25 - 4:11) in a presumably short amount of time (37.233 Thousand × FTL)
Snooky's ship traveled to the sun in seconds (-7:58 - -7:46)
Underdog
Simon Bar Sinister
As Underdog’s main nemesis, it's no question that he scales to this mad scientist. Not only has he blitzed Simon and Cad rather easily (15:50 - 15:53), but frequently overpowered their best machines. Simon has made a point out of every one of his plans failing, and Underdog can match anything he has because of it. With his gadgets, Simon has…
Used a Cloud Machine to create a storm cloud over Capital City (14:23 - 14:33)
Used a weather machine to instantly make large storm clouds, He later said he planned to conquer the world by attacking it with hurricanes and tornadoes, and threatened to “wipe you out” to the world at large, creating hurricanes, earthquakes, and floods all at once to destroy the Earth (01:40 - 2:39)
In a later flashback to this (1:47-2:00), he claimed he would have “flooded the whole world” (25.509 Exatons of TNT, likely much higher)
Piloted a spaceship to the moon in a short timeframe (15:21 - 15:31)
Simon created a machine that could rearrange the atoms of water, and used this to suck up all the water in the world, like to put the entire atlantic ocean in a jar smaller than his hand (1:28 - 1:55)
The Bubbleheads
These underwater foes wished to hold the earth hostage and privy to their ransom through several ecological disasters they created, but, like always, Underdog stopped each one they created, and destroyed the machine that created all of this (4th Bubbleheads episode). Their machines have…
Over time, created a tidal wave (3:15 - 4:53) capable of wiping out the surface world entirely of life (25.509 Exatons of TNT, likely much higher)
A later description by Polly/The Narrator says it would wipe out the Earth and drought the land (13:59 - 14:21)
The Magnet Men (Debatable)
Hailing from outer space, these metal men are some of Underdog's first alien foes. Primarily, their weapon, the Great Gravity Gun, was what Underdog had to beat. While it did overpower him early in the saga and trap him via his metal ring, this was his base form; not his absolute best strength through the Pill. We do not see what would happen if he took it, given he left it on Earth for his rematch so the Metal Ring would not hold him back. More details will be given in Before The Verdict but it will be listed regardless
The Great Gravity Gun pulled the Earth away from the Sun (12:47 - 13:47) to freeze it over (30 Ronnatons)
While starting out, it rapidly shifted the earth (12:47 - 13:47) several times (483.13 Ronnatons of TNT) and created massive tremors across the entire planet (17 Foe)
Underdog fixing the Earth and rotating it back into place earned similar environmental effects (16:04 - 16:35)
The Flying Sorcerers
The Flying Sorcerers are a duo of brothers, sent to earth to get their father, the king of their homeworld Zot, a decent cake. While initially they ran circles around Underdog in a physical brawl, once he consumed his Drugs Ex Machina, he proceeded to mop the floor with them both, providing clear evidence to his scaling. The Flying Sorcerers have…
They later went to Earth (4:22 - 4:49) in seconds (5.2608 Trillion × FTL)
They threw her as well and got back in a short time; stopping to fight Underdog along the way (5:46 - 7:43)
Underdog caught up to their flight even before taking his Pill
Overcat
As the ultimate antithesis to Underdog and the “strongest in the universe”, Overcat gave Underdog the fight of his life for the fate of the world. They battled in a televised duel shown worldwide, and ultimately, Underdog emerged victorious, forcing Overcat to retreat and admit defeat. Therefore, he scales to and beyond that of this furious feline. Overcat has…
Flipped a Car (2:15-2:21) and walked through a house Kool-Aid Man style (1:17 - 1:36)
Said to be as strong as Underdog by Polly, maybe stronger (12:39 - 12:52)
Threatened to (11:56 - 12:58) “wipe out the Earth with my super-powers” (4:16 - 4:37) and his later message clarifying this was a direct attack on the planet (likely Planet Level)
Weaknesses
Krypto
(What the hell was this episode)
It should come as no surprise that Krypto isn't totally Invincible. He's obviously vulnerable to Kryptonite, which has also ensured devices work on him easier (1:38 - 2:28). Krypto can also fall prey to Red Kryptonite, which has given some…weird effects, like swapping his mind with others (0:42 - 1:44), erasing them for a day (3:33 - 4:25), making his tail come off (1:51 - 2:48), giving him amnesia (-18:42 - -18:07), or even turning him into a fish (1:18 - 1:18). Also, he still needs to breathe, and can not survive (2:05 - 2:51) for extended periods (4:38 - 4:59) in space, or underwater (3:46 - 4:14). Aside from that, classic Superman weaknesses like (1:47 - 2:18) magic (-5:33 - -5:08) and red (0:20 - 0:28) sunlight (-10:44 - -9:23) still bypass his defenses and drain his powers respectively. Krypto has also been aged into an older and weaker dog (2:28 - 3:24), been hypnotized by the pied pipers flute (-16:02 - -:15:06), and transmutated into a playing card via a magic spell (-5:33 - -5:08).
Underdog
Despite his incredible might, Underdog isn't exactly the smartest dog on the block. His clumsiness has wrecked an absurd amount of city property, and resulted in foes getting the drop on him more than once. He also does need to breath, and can pass out in regards to this (10:10 - 12:36). Although, he has fought and spoke (1:01 - 1:19/5:00 - 5:18) while underwater (13:54 - 14:23) or in space (see Resistances) just fine so…yeah. Other examples have him vulnerable to amnesia (9:26 - 10:19) and applications of electricity that can freeze (3:58 - 6:15) or trap him (7:22 - 14:22).
Before The Verdict
Is Krypto the Superdog Canon to the DCAU?
One question that might come up is if Krypto is part of the DCAU canon, in which case, it's fairly unlikely. In the cartoon, Superman's design is similar to his Superman: The Animated Series/Justice League self, which could lead to potential comparisons. In the comic spin-offs of the show, several more characters show up bearing the design of their DCAU counterparts, such as Batman, Joker, Flash, Penguin, and even more miscellaneous characters like Superman's parents or Commissioner Gordon. From that point, you COULD make the argument…but it's pretty easy to debunk.
In the show itself, Lex Luthor has a different design and VA than in the DCAU, as does Superman in the latter's case. What’s more, Krypto's existence in the DCAU doesn't make much sense considering Season 1 episode 2 of Justice League Unlimited; “For the man who has everything”. For context, this episode put Superman in a sort of dream world where Krypton didn't explode, and Krypto was there as an adult. This means…well, as far as we know, Krypto perished on Krypton as a puppy, sad as it is. In the first episode of Superman TAS, Krypto also appears as a puppy, and we don't see him again. It's highly likely he DID escape, just like the comic's, and we just haven't seen him, but the writers explicitly didn't want to use him, which is backed up by Bruce Timm axing his introduction. Further examples include Ace the Bathound having all his gadgets and adventures here when he's basically a normal dog in the DCAU.
Due to these facts, Krypto cant really show up in the DCAU under normal circumstances. As for the DCAU designs, well, it was a DC cartoon during the 2000's. Using the designs of currently airing cartoons is objectively the best choice due to the popularity of the show, and that's realistically all there is to it.
Underdog Cosmology
Nah I'm just screwing with you.
What I really mean is that Underdog does have a somewhat complicated space area that I'll try to explain here.
Throughout the show, Underdog or characters he can scale to have flown vast interstellar distances with no major issues, which ties into all of the best speed feats. The planets in question are Zot, Felina (Overcat’s home), and the Flying Sorcerers planet. Starting with Zot, this was stated to be “a million million miles away” or 1,000,000,000,000 miles (1:40-1:50); about 0.1700680272 light-years. However, given context, it is likely much farther away. Zot's scientists were specifically noted to search their entire galaxy for the strongest warrior (long story) and only after that, turn their gaze past it to the greater universe (3:58 - 4:55). Therefore, Zot is at minimum outside the Milky Way Galaxy, and the Zot Saucers can fly this distance in a short time frame rather casually on (3:50 - 6:17) several (6:41 - 6:57) occasions (7:11 - 7:59) throughout (8:11 - 10:17) the (11:07 - 11:54) saga. Moving to Felina, this was also stated to be a trillion miles away (2:04 - 2:09), which does make some sense given the nearest planet Overcat tried going to was Earth (3:51 - 4:00). Finally, we have the planet of the Flying Sorcerers, which is a little more complicated.
For context, the Flying Sorcerers, Brick and Back, flew across space to different planets for the purpose of bringing back a baker for their father. They traveled to several of the above and otherwise mentioned planets, like that of the Magnet Men and the Zot. While doing this, we are shown a map of them being in the general area (1:13 - 5:14). This is important because we are directly told by both Underdog and the narrator that the Sorcerer's Planet is a million light-years away from Earth (0:16 - 0:37). Therefore, the Magnet Planet and Zot should likely be around their location; a million light-years away.
TLDR: two of the planets are somewhat stated a trillion miles away, but given their mostly close proximity to the million light-years away Sorcerer planet, are likely much farther, which makes sense given the Zot planet is outside Earth's Galaxy. At minimum you can apply the trillion mile distance, but also use the million light-year end for the Sorcerers planet or outside the galaxy for the Zot.
The Great Gravity Gun
For those who have seen the show, scaling Underdog to the Great Gravity Gun might seem like a bit of a stretch, but we believe it to be logical. For context, the Gun pulls metal mostly, and was what moved the Earth away from the sun before Underdog shoved it back. When it was used on him, it pulled his Ring, and stuck him to the object, from which he couldn't get unstuck until they turned the machine off. It was outright said he was helpless against it as well. Seems pretty straightforward in that he wouldn't scale right? Well, it's doubtful at his best he couldn't overpower it.
We are told several times that Underdog is the strongest hero/being in the universe, and that his only weakness is Sweet Polly. He is narratively meant to be the strongest there is, especially when he consumes his Pill, which is a massive Stat Boost. To put into perspective how much this is, it is stated several times to draw out all his possible strength, and Underdog himself stated this puts his strength at its very peak. It's ability has let him solidly outmatch foes like Fearo and the Flying Sorcerers, both of whom were capable of ragdolling his base self rather easily, similar to the Great Gravity Gun. It even restored his powers to their best after he had been weakened to the point where he could not lift a gun. Speaking of the Pill, he didn't consume it in the saga (he left the ring on earth so he wouldn't be weak to their magnetism) even when he had to move the entire Earth; nor did he get very tired from doing that mind you. That Pill has enabled him to stop every single threat he has come up against, so it would be a little bit silly if he couldn't scale to it after consuming it.
TLDR: Underdog is narratively the strongest character and proven such in-story, especially with the Pill. He would logically be superior to the Gun, especially considering he has also moved the Earth without need of consuming his Pill or getting tired.
Star and MFTL Underdog?
I suppose a few of you might have questions at just how high Underdog was placed here, which this should hopefully explain. As for his strength, his moving the earth feats all get into Ronnatons, which is without his Pill mind you, which is pretty much a quantum increase given how it works. He would already get into dwarf star via these feats, but the Great Gravity Gun has a calculation of causing a severe earthquake across the entire world that gets 17 Foe, outright surpassing this to get Large Star. Whether or not you think Underdog scales to it given context is fine, but I believe it a bit silly that he wouldn't scale at the least with his Pill given its cartoon deux ex machina nature. Even if you didn't use it, he's still largely upscaling his own planet moving feats for power. Truth be told, there was also a bit of miscommunication with who helped calculate these feats (sorry Raptor and Stars, you guys are the best) and I actually wound up with a few calculations for the same stuff (Like a 117.113 Ronnatons end for the 529.58 Ronnaton version of Underdog rapidly shifting the Earth's axis); all of which get Ronnatons
As for his speed feats, they all come from flying to distant areas in space in short timeframes. The best example of this would be his trip to the Flying Sorcerers planet, which is 1 million light-years away, in mere seconds. The timeframe is absolutely viable given he raced there while Polly was in the middle of drowning. Among other space examples, it's highly likely you could place Zot outside our galaxy at the bare minimum given context surrounding their space search, and thus amp those space feats speed even more.
Verdict
Stats
Jumping into the premier of my second wave, both Krypto and Underdog have a variety of ends to go over in their strength and speed. Krypto has shook mountains through growling, reflected several meteors, and punched back meteors capable of causing solar flares that get from gigatons to petatons. He's also tanked a focused blast capable of creating a planet wide EMP at several teratons of TNT, and would upscale from Mechanikat surviving enough energy to “shock the entire world”, which gets over 100 Exatons of TNT. He's also worn a special spacesuit that can boost all of this by 3, making his potential output nearly 400 Exatons of TNT.
Moving to Underdog, he's blasted away volcano eruptions, sewed up earthquakes, shook entire planets by landing on them, and proven superior to the machines of both Simon and the Bubbleheads. Both of these machines were capable of flooding the surface world, getting at bare minimum 25 Exatons of TNT. While that is less than Krypto's value, we then need to cover Simon's threat to completely destroy the Earth, which is far higher than Krypto's values. This isn't exactly a stretch either, when Underdog defeated Overcat, a likely Planet Level foe given his threat to wipe out the Earth. Both of these would already heavily outclass Krypto, but that's not all, as Underdog has also moved the Earth in several variations, all of which get Ronnaton values, and further this gap.
Thus, Krypto's only option is speed. Krypto has kept up with Snooky's ship, which was capable of flying out of his solar system in an hour, and he has done the same thing with Streaky. Both of these get several dozen thousand times FTL, and Krypto could potentially scale to various other spaceships that can achieve speed in the millions of times FTL as well, though he was solidly outpaced by a ship going hundreds of millions of times FTL. Even if we had scaled him to this ship, Underdog would still outpace him several times over. This includes traveling several hundred thousand times FTL to other planets, and even multiple trillion times FTL as well, which solidly lend him sizable edges in speed as well as AP.
Underdog takes stats rather comfortably, and this gap is furthered with his Pill.
Arsenal & Abilities
When concerning their abilities, things don't bode well for Krypto much either. Beyond his standard superdog powers like enhanced stats, canine abilities like enhanced senses, and his heat vision, he's fairly lacking in offensive tricks. Underdog on the other hand has matching powers to basically everything Krypto can utilize in battle. Both have ways to see invisible objects (making Underdog’s invisibility moot), enhanced canine senses, flight, heat vision, and other similar powers, but that's kind of where it stops for comparisons. While Krypto's senses can reach into space to places outside the solar system, Underdog's can reach millions of light-years to planets like the Flying Sorcerers, showcasing far superior range in that front.
Underdog has more versatile sets of eye powers (invisible heat vision for starters) on top of greater applications of Krypto's barks through his own roar of thunder. Moving to his actual powers, Krypto has no reliable counter to Underdog's transmutation, which can instantly take him out of the fight. He's notably been affected by transmutation from magicians before, and even if you want to say this was solely due to magic,we've seen no proof elsewhere that Krypto can resist something like that. Another ability Krypto is outmatched in is Underdog’s Cosmic Awareness, which would likely allow him to gain knowledge on Krypto's abilities and species similar to his encounter with the Surfer. Even in the event Krypto somehow damaged him, Underdog’s regeneration and stamina/health refresh upon consuming his Pill would reverse any damage done. To round things out, Underdog is capable of surviving in space for extended periods of time without protective equipment, unlike Krypto, who's own helmet and suit can be damaged and leave him vulnerable to the vacuum of space should the fight be taken there.
Underdog solidly takes abilities.
Tertiary Factors
Finally, at more tertiary matters, Underdog once again outmatches Krypto. While both have gone on similar experiences before against witches and mad scientists, there's no doubt Underdog has been doing it for longer. On top of that, he's battled far more skilled warriors, and taking on entire armies by yourself is just far more impressive than anything Krypto has done. Outside both is his Great Brain, which has frequently helped him find solutions to whatever problem thrown at him, and outmatched his enemies plots at every turn.
Tertiary Factors go to Underdog.
Conclusion
Krypto
Advantages:
Matches Underdog in most of his powers (flight, heat vision, enhanced senses, etc)
Can counter a few of Underdog's abilities, like seeing through his invisibility
Similar in experience in quantity…
Disadvantages:
Outmatched in stats at every angle
Less skilled and intelligent overall
…But not in quality
Lacks healing methods and is vulnerable to things Underdog isn't, like the vacuum of Space
Underdog is resistant to his heat vision
Vulnerable to transmutation
Underdog
Advantages:
Takes the Stat Trinity with all ends, and furthers this gap with his Pill
Can revert any damage or lost stamina with the Underdog Pill
Superior senses and overall powers
Greater survivability and endurance
Smarter, weirdly enough
Holds greater examples of skill
Krypto has no counter to his transmutation
Polly is an awesome girlfriend
Disadvantages:
Krypto is mostly resistant to things like his Heat Vision
Polly is an ass in the Underdog comics
The 1st version of “Underdog Raps” was never released
So, Underdog is the clear Victor. He holds massive edges in the stat trinity, outmatches and counters all Krypto's abilities, has his own that Krypto can't counter, and is much more skilled/smart thanks to his higher experience and great brain. In this battle of the superdogs, only one could be top dog, and it's rather fitting that the victor was an Underdog.
The winner…is Underdog.

Next Time…
Before we get to the next time, thanks for reading, but please give my buddy Toxin's new blog, Wordgirl vs Underdog, a read. He did far more work than I did in the timeframe and truly deserves the glory for it. I highly recommend it. Now then, it's about time I got around to this one…
Next Time Edit…
Eren vs Kaneki needs more time to cook to perfection, so I'm taking the original next time after it and making it into a bonus blog. Here it is!
